We’ve long been fans of Publix supermarket for their delicious deli subs, fresh-baked cookies, and weekly BOGO items. But now it appears that they’re coming after our holiday wine budget, too.
The Southeastern-based grocery chain has released a limited number of wines under the Publix Premium wine label, but we’re hearing that these new bottles won’t last long. According to store employees, there won’t be many additional shipments once the first batch is gone, so get it while it lasts!
I did a deep dive into the Publix Premium wine label and put together everything you need to know about where to find it, how much it costs, and how to save when you buy wine at Publix.

1. Publix wine comes in just three varieties for now.
The lineup is limited to just three varieties so far, all bottled under the Publix Premium label, with a black, silver, and gold color scheme. If you’re a regular Publix shopper, you know that the “Premium” name appears on some of their store-brand products that are a notch above the standard stuff.
Each limited-edition Publix Premium wine is made from California grapes purchased by Publix and cellared and bottled by Universal Wine Network. Based on my research, Universal Wine Network is the same California-based group that makes wine for popular brands like Cupcakes Vineyards, FishEye Winery, FlipFlop Wines, Franzia, and more.
Here are the current varieties of their Premium label:
Publix Premium Limited Edition Pinot Noir, 750 mL – $19.99
-
- Compare to: La Crema Pinot Noir ($18.99 – $21.99 at Publix, $14.99 at Total Wine)
- Region: Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California
- Flavor profile: Ripe cherry, mulberry, berry pie, and plum
Buy it for as low as $19.99 at Publix.
Publix Premium Limited Edition Chardonnay, 750 mL – $17.99
-
- Compare to: Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay ($24.99 at Publix, $13.99 at Total Wine)
- Region: Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California
- Flavor profile: Honey, creme brulee, pear, nutmeg, and hazelnut
Buy it for as low as $17.99 at Publix.
Publix Premium Limited Edition Cabernet Sauvignon, 750 mL – $19.99
-
- Compare to: Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon ($14.99 at Publix, $17.97 at Total Wine)
- Region: Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley, California
- Flavor profile: Crushed violets, warm cedar, wild currant, and mixed berry fruits
Buy it for as low as $19.99 at Publix.
2. Only one out of five stores carry Publix Premium wine — and only during the holidays.
For the Publix grocery stores that are allowed to sell wine based on local liquor laws, it’s an even smaller subset of stores that will carry the Publix Premium label. And don’t expect the bottles to sit on shelves for long. Publix is hyping up the “limited-time” aspect of these wines, saying that “once they’re gone, they’re gone.” (I confirmed this with employees at my local store who got their first shipment of Publix Premium wine the second week of October. They said they’ll likely not get additional shipments this holiday season.)
According to their wine locator page, Publix Premium wine will only be sold in 235 of the 1,309 total Publix stores in the seven states that they operate in. That means only 18% of stores will carry the Publix Premium wine label. Pretty exclusive, no?
If your store is lucky enough to carry it, you’ll find it prominently displayed in the wine section. At my local store, I saw multiple vintages on the shelf (2019 – 2021) differentiated by the color of the seal around the neck.
Here are the number of stores that carry Publix Premium wine:
- Alabama (13)
- Florida (144)
- Georgia (18)
- North Carolina (33)
- South Carolina (12)
- Tennessee (53)
- Virginia (19)

3. You can get Publix wine delivered through Instacart.
In select locations, you can get Publix wine delivered through their partnership with Instacart. But you may not find the limited-edition Publix wines available.
For example, even though I live within four miles of a Publix store that carries the limited-edition wines (see Tip #2), I couldn’t find the cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, or chardonnay as an option for delivery in my ZIP code. If you do find it in stock, the fees start at $3.99 for orders over $35. Of course, if any wine is out of stock, you’ll need to specify a suitable replacement for your Instacart shopper.
TIP: You must be 21 or older to get alcohol deliveries through Instacart. Your Instacart driver will need to see your photo ID at the time of delivery.
4. Get a discount on Publix wine when you buy four or more bottles.
Publix’s wine discount program lets you rack up some savings when you buy in bulk — no coupons or membership needed. When you buy 4 – 7 bottles of regular-priced wine, you save 5%. For eight or more bottles, the discount jumps to 10%.
Basically the more wine you buy at a time, the more you’ll save per bottle. For example, if you bought four bottles at $17.99 each, your final price would be $68.36 with the 5% discount (a savings of $3.60). For eight bottles, the total price is $129.53 with the 10% discount (a savings of $14.39).
TIP: Your savings will automatically apply at the Publix checkout line, but just remember that wine bottles on sale won’t count toward the minimum.
5. And get a free reusable wine bag when you buy four or more.
Publix always gives you a free reusable wine tote when you buy four or more bottles of wine. Colors may vary based on availability, but I’ve seen the maroon tote and the green tote most recently.
6. Always check for digital wine coupons before you shop.
Before I set foot in Publix, I always check their digital coupons page for any last-minute savings. They often have manufacturer wine coupons, like $1 off a bottle of Murphy-Goode wine, and it just takes a second to save the coupon to my account.
To quickly see all the Publix wine coupons available, you can download the Publix app (iOS / Android), bookmark their website, or check the weekly Publix Liquors ad.
To use digital coupons at Publix, you’ll first need to sign up for a free Publix account. Then at checkout, you enter your phone number at the register and the coupon savings will apply automatically.
