1. If there’s a Kroger Mega Sale happening, you’ll find it advertised online and in the weekly Kroger ad.

Kroger Mega Sales are actually super common — you’ll see them happening more weeks than not. To navigate all the best deals, follow The Krazy Coupon Lady’s Kroger Deals page to find the best of the best savings each week.

2. When you buy a certain number of products, Kroger will give additional dollars-off discounts.

The exact number of products you have to buy for a Mega Sale deal varies (as does the discount) — but here are some examples of what you can expect:

  • Buy 5 Save $5
  • Buy 6 Save $3
  • Buy 10 Save $5

3. Look for a red or blue price tag to indicate Mega Sale items.

You can learn a lot just by looking at the color of the price tags at your local Kroger store.

  • White price tag = regular price
  • Yellow price tag = sale price
  • Red or Blue = Mega Event price

If you don’t buy enough items to get the Mega Sale price, you’ll pay the price on the yellow tag. If the item doesn’t have a yellow tag, you’ll pay the amount on the white tag.

4. Make sure you have the right number of Mega Sale items — otherwise, you’ll overpay at the register.

Let’s say you buy four packages of Chobani yogurt in the Kroger Mega Sale for $2.79 each (regularly $3.79). You’d expect your total to be $11.16, right?

But wait! You needed FIVE packages to get the Mega Sale price. So with only four packages, your total will ring up to $15.16.

Bottom line: Pay attention to your product count with a Mega Sale offer.

5. Add inexpensive filler items to hit your Kroger Mega Sale quota.

Yes, there are actually Mega Sale filler items! We like to find items that are $1 or less — and part of the Mega Sale — and throw them in our cart. This helps us to hit that set number of items.

For example, during a recent Mega Sale, I was one item short. So I tossed in some organic tomato sauce at just $0.50 a can to help reach my minimum item number and get the sale.

6. Not everything in the Mega Sale is advertised in the ad — but they make the deals easy to find.

There are usually hundreds of items in each sale, so leave some wiggle room in your plan (and budget) for picking up unadvertised Mega Sale items. You can spot them in the store pretty easily — Kroger keeps the signs obvious.

TIP: Kroger keeps a printed list of products included in the Mega Sale on racks at the front of the store. It’s usually where they keep the current sale ads. You can also ask the Customer Service desk for a printed copy.

7. You can absolutely stack coupons with Kroger Mega Sale items.

This is one of the best things about Kroger Mega Sales — you can score even lower deals by stacking coupons on top of the Mega Sale prices.

Kroger only accepts up to five like manufacturer coupons in a single transaction, so don’t plan on using 15 of the same exact Huggies Wipes coupons during the sale.

However, this doesn’t mean that five coupons is the maximum you can use on your Kroger purchase. It’s just no more than five of the same coupon. You can still use as many coupons as you have items at Kroger.

8. Buy Mega Sale items, stack coupons, and get Catalinas for an even better deal.

If you get a Mega Sale item that you can stack with a coupon and there’s also a Catalina offer, then snap that right up!

And if you aren’t familiar with Catalina coupons, they’re the ones that print out at the register at the end of your transaction. Many times, Kroger will offer Catalinas good for $1 or more off your next purchase — so yeah, free money.

Don’t worry — we can keep you informed of any ongoing Catalina deals at Kroger.

9. The Kroger Mega Sale price tag will tell you if there are limits on how many of an item you can buy.

We don’t often see limits on the maximum number of Mega Sale items you can buy, but keep an eye out for a “Reward Limit” in the lower right corner of the Mega Sale tag.

If you do see a limit, just buy the limit amount of that product and use filler items to get you to the correct number you need to get the Mega Sale price.

10. Look for the <+ symbol on your receipt to spot a Mega Sale item.

The Mega Sale items at Kroger are usually marked with a <+ symbol. This makes them easy to spot when you’re scanning your receipt for accuracy — probably in the parking lot if you’re anything like me.

11. Separate your Mega Sale items from your other groceries to keep track of how many Mega Sale items you have.

Bring some bags with you when you shop a Kroger Mega Sale in order to keep your Mega Sale items separate from the other groceries in your cart. This way you’ll know how many Mega Sale items you have before you get to the checkout line.

TIP: If you miscount your Mega Sale items even after separating them from your other groceries, don’t panic. Let’s say you were one item away from getting the Mega Sale prices, but you’ve already paid — hey, it happens. We suggest you take your receipt to the Customer Service desk if you didn’t count your items correctly — they’ll help you make it right.
