There are a ton of streaming services out there, but the OG is still one of the most popular: Netflix. They offer a wide range of movies, TV shows, and documentaries, making it a popular source of entertainment for many households. However, with a monthly subscription cost, it can add up to a significant expense over time. But the good news is that you can get Netflix for free.
You don’t have many options to get free Netflix, but some definitely exist. (There are many more options for saving money on Netflix.) We’ll show you the common promotions and discounts that’ll knock this line item off your budget.
So get ready to watch Money Heist, Stranger Things, and Harry & Meghan without burdening your bank account. Here’s what we’ve learned:
Buy a discounted Netflix gift card at Raise or Target.
Buy discounted Netflix gift cards 5% off when you buy Netflix gift cards at Target and pay with the Target RedCard or up to 4.1% off at Raise.
If you get an ad-supported Netflix account ($6.99/month) and buy $100 in gift card — either of these gift card deals will pay for 14 months of your account — but considering you pay about $95 for $100 in credits, it's like you get the 14th month free.
Note: Netflix promo codes aren’t really a thing … if you go to a website that claims to have them, chances are they’re bogus.
Get Netflix for free if you’re a T-Mobile subscriber.
Did you know that T-Mobile offers a free Netflix subscription with their Magenta Max, and Go5G Plus or Go5G Next plans? It’s true! If you’re already a T-Mobile customer with an eligible plan, you can simply go to your “Add-Ons” page on your T-Mobile profile to get started with your free Netflix account.
If you have one or more qualifying Go5G Next, Go5G Plus or Magenta Max lines in good standing, you can get the Netflix Basic subscription for free. This subscription is for one or two screens (based on the number of qualifying lines) in your household (value up to $9.99/month). T-Mobile will add the $9.99 fee to your monthly bill along with the credit for the service.
If you have an existing Netflix standard ad-free or premium ad free plan, you can still activate the T-Mobile Netflix on Us promotion and link your Netflix account. Although it won’t be free, T-Mobile will apply a discount toward the price of your package. For example: You currently subscribe to Netflix Premium, for $22.99, T-Mobile Netflix on Us will apply the $9.99 and the remainder will be included with your T-Mobile monthly bill.
Note: Eligible T-Mobile Go5G Next customers also get Hulu (with ads) and Apple+ as part of their plan.
Netflix employees get free Netflix — among other perks.
If you’re looking for a new job, you might wanna know that Netflix employees receive some great benefits, including a free Netflix subscription. This is according to employee reviews on Glassdoor, where Netflix has a 4.4/5 star rating.
Along with the free subscription, employees also have access to a range of standard benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as life insurance and various other types of insurance. Check out their listings.
Also: Some companies, such as Google and LinkedIn, have offered a free Netflix subscription to their employees as a way to enhance their benefits package. And some financial services firms, such as Capital One, have offered a free Netflix subscription as a reward for their credit card customers.
Ask to be added to a friend or family member’s Netflix account (for now).
Most Netflix subscriptions allow multiple users (that live in the same household), and those users can stream different things at the same time. So if you live with someone who has an account and you ask really nicely, maybe they’ll add you to their account as one of the approved secondary users.
If you reside outside of the household, the primary subscriber must add you to their account as an extra member. The cost is $7.99 per extra member.
Standard plan subscribers can add one extra member.
Premimum plan subscribers can add up to two extra members.
Note: If you’re a student, you might be hoping for a Netflix student discount. Sadly, they don’t exist … but there is a Paramount Plus student discount.
Sadly, there are no Netflix free trials anymore.
Netflix no longer offers free trials for new users. Previously, Netflix offered a free trial period for new subscribers, allowing them to try the service for a limited time — sometimes up to a month! — without being charged. However, the company has discontinued this promotion and now requires new users to start a paid subscription to access the service.
This change was made as part of Netflix’s efforts to simplify their pricing and sign-up process. Don’t worry, though; there are plenty of streaming services offering free access and trials.
