Toys R Us’ (TRU) birthday at Macy’s is an annual event in October. During this time, the toy purveyor blows out their candles in honor of TRU mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe. In 2024, they're celebrating with free kid-friendly events and toy giveaways from Oct. 10 - 12 and Oct. 17 - 19 in select Macy's stores nationwide. C’mon, who doesn’t love a birthday freebie?
Each event day features a different toy brand. This year these include Pokemon, Rainbow High, Paw Patrol, Mega Blocks, Compound Kings Slime, and Hasbro Games.
Below we're outlining everything you need to know to attend one of these events which, again, are free and don't require any registration.

The Toys R Us Birthday event at Macy's is a 6-day event with freebies and activities for kids.
Along with free toys, the Toys R Us birthday event includes a variety of fun activities such as face painting, interactive games, and story time sessions. Children can enjoy complimentary birthday hats and balloons, while special discounts are available on popular toys.
Toys R Us Birthday events are happening on Oct. 10 - 12 and Oct. 17 - 19, 2024.
Toys R Us is doing their birthday up big with six separate in-store events. The first batch will happen from Oct. 10 - 12, with a second set of events from Oct. 17 - 19. These events are free, and you don't need to register in order to attend.
Here's how the Toys R Us Birthday events are rolling out in 2024.
As previously mentioned, Toys R Us and Geoffrey celebrate their birthday every October. In 2024, the in-store events at Macy’s are happening Oct. 10 - 12, and then again Oct. 17 - 19. Each day features a different theme, with activities, giveaways, and surprises to match it.
Thursday, Oct. 10, 4 - 6 p.m.: Compound Kings Slime
If your kid (or you, no judgment) is on the slime bandwagon, this day was made for you. Attendees played with Compound Kings slime while at the event, plus got a mini-slime jar to take home (while supplies lasted). The kick-off event hours were 4 – 6 p.m. in select Macy’s stores with TRU departments.
Friday, Oct. 11, 4 - 6 p.m.: Hasbro Games
To celebrate TRU's birthday, Hasbro Games is headed in store so kids can demo some new and old games. The take-home gift is a Monopoly Bid card game, but of course, only while supplies last.
Saturday, Oct. 12, noon - 2 p.m.: Rainbow High
Finally — something free to do on a Saturday! From noon - 2 p.m. on Oct. 12, Rainbow High is taking over the TRU departments of participating Macy's stores. While there, kids can decorate and design their very own Rainbow High Color & Create doll outfit. Again, no purchase necessary, but it's while supplies last.
Thursday, Oct. 17, 4 - 6 p.m.: Pokemon
If you gotta catch ’em all, then you may as well hit up Pokemon Trade & Play Day from 4 – 6 p.m. on Oct. 17. There will be a Pokemon giveaway during the event (no purchase necessary). But be mindful: quantities are limited.
Friday, Oct. 18, 4 - 6 p.m.: Paw Patrol
If your Chase is on the case or Rubble is on the double, head to participating Macy's for Paw Patrol themed play activities. There will also be Paw Patrol giveaways while supplies last — are you tired of us saying that yet?
Saturday, Oct. 19, noon - 2 p.m.: Mega Blocks
Pokemon lovers, rejoice — there's more Pikachu and friends to be had on Oct. 19. Attendees will receive either a Mega Pokemon or Mega Blocks mini set to play with in stores or just take home while supplies last. Keep in mind this event takes place from noon - 2 p.m since it's a Saturday.

Macy’s is very transparent that quantities are limited when it comes to the freebies. With that in mind, get to an event your kid is super interested in early to increase your chances of scoring whatever is up for grabs.
