Halloween Squishmallows are one of the rarest subcategories in the Squishmallow world. They have pumpkin Squishmallows, ghost Squishmallows, spiders, a Grim Reaper Squishmallow, and even Sanderson Sister Squishmallows. In fact, the rarest Squishmallow created is Jack the Black Cat Squishmallow, with only 500 in circulation. Another extremely rare find is the Otto Squishmallow, a grim reaper.

These little pails are a little pricier at $20, but if your kids reuse the pails next year and the year after that, it pays off. These probably won’t go on sale anytime soon, but RedCard members can always save 5% on their purchases.

Walgreens and Walmart seem to have the highest prices on Halloween Squishmallows.

Where else can you find Halloween Squishmallows?

halloween squishmallows at CVS

If you’re wondering where to find Halloween Squishmallows, we have the best leads on where you can find them online and in stores. When shopping in big-box stores like Walmart and Target, be sure to look in the Halloween section and the toy section. Every store is different as to where they stock them. You can check out the full list of Squishmallow retailers.

My top tip for shopping for any rare or trending Squishmallow online without overpaying is to verify that the retailer is the same as the site you’re shopping on. For example, if you’re shopping on Amazon.com, be sure it says “Sold and shipped by Amazon.” With holiday releases, third-party sellers are more prominent than when you’re shopping for regular Squishmallows.

When do Halloween Squishmallows usually come out?

Across all of the retailers, Halloween Squishmallows will start to pop up as early as the end of July through October. In August 2023, we saw some pop up in Walgreens stores. We saw more pop up at Walmart, Target, and Sam’s Club in September 2023. For context, in 2022, they hit the shelves at Walgreens on Aug. 10, and Aldi had them on Oct. 14. Currently, you could find Halloween Squishmallows in every store mentioned above.

We’ve spotted Halloween and fall-themed Squishmallows in Aldi, Walgreens, Walmart, Meijer, and HomeGoods. Aldi also released a batch of 8″ Halloween Squishmallows in the Oct. 12 sales ad for $4.99. This included Calio the Cat, Delie the Candy Corn, Staley the Pumpkin, Benti the Vampire, and Ferlize the Ghost Squishmallow. My rule of thumb is that any time I’m out shopping, I look for them. You never know what you’ll find.

Squishmallow makes Halloween Trick-or-Treat pails that cost around $20 each.

That’s right, you can get Squishmallow treat pails at Target, Kohl’s, Oriental Trading, HalloweenCostumes.com, and Claire’s. They range in price but aim to pay no more than $20 per bucket. So far I’ve been able to find 10 different designs:

While Oriental Trading has the largest selection, there are two Target exclusives so far. Cam the Cat and Fifi the Fox are both available in costumes at Target. Plus, by shopping at Target you can use your RedCard to save 5%, bringing the price down to $19. So far, Claire’s is now offering a BOGO deal on a Squishmallow treat pail for $24.99.

What different kinds of Halloween Squishmallows are out there?

The Hocus Pocus Sanderson Sisters three piece Squishmallow set staged on a counter.

Certain Squishmallows come back year after year, like the whole Nightmare Before Christmas crew. Squishmallows for Halloween come in clips as small as 4.5 inches and all the way up to 24 inches. Clips are priced as low as $4.99. I love finding the clips because then I can buy more. Keep your eyes out for store-exclusive rare Squishmallows, too.

Rare Halloween Squishmallows to Look For:

Rare Halloween Squishmallows Jack the black cat and Otto the Grim Reaper on a white background.

There’s a handful of Squishmallows that are very hard to find. Listed below are some of the rarest of the rare. They may not all come back into circulation for Halloween 2023, but if you see one of these cuddly ghouls, grab it immediately!

Otto the Grim Reaper Squishmallow

The Grim Reaper Squishmallow was originally available in the United Kingdom. Eventually, he was found at Aldi and Walgreens in 2021. And the fan-favorite has now made a grand reappearance for 2023. We found a 10-inch version on Amazon via the official Squishmallow storefront for $26.99. The only drawback is that even if you order now, he won’t arrive until mid-October.

There’s also a five-inch version on Amazon that will ship within a few days and is eligible for free Prime delivery. However, it’s a whopping $45.99. Despite being half the size of the above Squish, it’s nearly $20 more expensive. But, if you absolutely must get your hands on a Grim Reaper Squishmallow, this is an option.

Jack the Black Cat Squishmallow

Don’t expect to stumble across Jack the Black Cat Squishmallow in a store. Or online for that matter. We haven’t been able to find any new ones. Jack was the first Squishmallow part of the new “Select Series” line. You could only purchase these through Squishmallow.com, with only 500 available. Select Series Squishmallows have the black tag, and you can learn all about the different levels of rare Squishmallows here.
