As a show of gratitude for the service of our military personnel, Walgreens offers a military discount during three key times in the year. These appreciation events usually line up with Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. Around these holidays, Walgreens will give you 20% off your in-store Walgreens purchase if you’re a veteran, active military, or family member of a veteran or military member.
If you’re eligible for this discount, there are some details and restrictions we need to explain, though. The biggest one? You can’t combine the discount with certain Walgreens deals like Buy 1 Get 1 Free or Buy 1 Get 1 50% off.

The Walgreens military discount is only offered three times a year.
Walgreens offers a military discount just three times a year, similar to how the Target military discount only pops up twice a year. They normally offer the Walgreens military savings around Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. During these select times, veterans, active-duty military, and their families can save 20% on their in-store Walgreens purchases.
When is the next Walgreens military discount?
We predict the next military discount period will be offered in Walgreens and Duane Reade stores from Fridat, November 8 – Monday, November 11, 2024.

Use the 20% off military discount on in-store purchases only (and items must be regular price).
According to the fine print, the 20% off military discount at Walgreens applies only to regular-priced items, and the discount only works for in-store transactions.
The offer also applies to purchases made at Duane Reade stores, since the two chains are related.
Since Walgreens often has many sales going on at once, this means the list of items you can use the discount on isn’t very long. If an item already has a special sale price, you can’t use the discount on it. And if something’s included in a promotion like “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” or “Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off,” that also excludes it from the military discount.
Additionally, your discount can’t be used to buy any of the following items:
Alcohol
Back-ordered or out-of-stock items
Bulk orders
Charitable donations
Clinic services
Dairy
Gift cards
Lottery tickets
Newspapers
Magazines
Money orders or transfers
Pharmacy items or services
Prescriptions
Prescription Savings Club membership fee
Pseudoephedrine or ephedrine products
Sales tax
Stamps
Tobacco
Transportation passes
Claim your military discount at Walgreens just by showing your ID.
They make it pretty simple to use your military discount, provided you’re shopping during the timeframes they offer it. Here’s what to do:
Make sure you’ve joined myWalgreens.
Show your myWalgreens card or enter your linked phone number at checkout.
Present a valid military ID or proof of service.
Voila! You’ll get that 20% discount on eligible full-price items. But, remember, this deal is an in-store exclusive; you can’t claim it online.

How the Walgreens Military Discount Compares
CVS does have a 20% military discount and it’s year-round instead of just three times a year. But there’s a catch — it’s online only.
Target has a 10% military discount, which is lower than both the Walgreens and CVS discount offers. And similar to Walgreens’ discount, the Target military discount only runs two times per year, once around the Fourth of July (June 23 - July 6, 2024) and again around Veterans Day.
But the nice thing about Target’s offer is that you can pair it with other sales and Target Circle offers like the baby registry coupon.
