At some locations, the new McDonald's Mini McFlurry has already hit menu boards — in a smaller size and for a smaller price compared to the regular size. At most McDonald's locations I've checked, the Mini McFlurry runs around $1.60 ($1.90 less than the regular size), so you're paying a good chunk less out of pocket.

But I needed to know if this was actually good deal or if I'd just be paying more for less. And I was shocked when the new Mini McFlurry size worked out to be a better value than the regular size. I'm used to paying more per serving for smaller sizes, but that's not the case with these baby McFlurries — the mini size truly is the better value.

I've got all the details on the new McDonald's Mini McFlurry, McDonald's deals to help you save even more, and how the Mini McFlurry stacks up to the Jr. Frosty deal at Wendy's.

The new McDonald's Mini McFlurry will launch widely on Sept. 10, but many locations are selling them now.

The McDonald's Mini McFlurry is pretty much what it sounds like. It's the candy-filled soft serve ice cream you know, but in a mini size. While slated for a wide release on Sept. 10 (with new eco-friendly lids), many locations have them for sale.

The regular size McFlurry customers may be used to comes in a 12-ounce cup, while the new Mini McFlurry is an 8-ounce version.

Many McFlurry fans remember the snack size that was discontinued a little over a year ago. The snack size was said to be "one third the size of a regular McFlurry" which would work out to about four ounces. At eight ounces, the mini is twice as big as the snack size.

The new mini McDonald's McFlurry really is a better value — costing 16% less per ounce than the regular size.

So how much does the McDonald's Mini McFlurry cost? At my nearest McDonald's location, the regular McFlurry is $3.79 and the mini is $2.19 — $1.60 less.

At 12 ounces, the regular size works out to $0.32 per ounce while the 8-ounce mini size works out to $0.27 per ounce. You'll pay about 16% less per ounce for the Mini McFlurry. More often than not, you end up paying more per ounce for smaller sizes (this is true at Starbucks, Dunkin', and others), but the Mini McFlurry truly is a money-saving dessert.

Check for McDonald's coupons on the app to save on the McFlurry.

Check your McDonald's app for the latest McDonald's coupons. While I don't currently see any McFlurry coupons, app users can get a free 6-piece McNugget with any $1 purchase or a free any size fries with a $2 purchase — both valid with the purchase of the McFlurry Mini.

The new McFlurry cups don't have the dome lids and iconic spoons.

The Mini McFlurry size isn't the only new thing McDonald's introduced this month. You'll notice both sizes of the McFlurry come in an entirely new cup — without the plastic dome lid or iconic (and also weird) spoon.

Instead, you'll get your McFlurry in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly container. The take-out-style box will have a folding flap lid instead of a plastic lid. The new spoons, which were introduced in October 2023, are smaller and use less plastic.

So far, there are only two flavors of the Mini McFlurry.

Right now the only two flavors I've seen in the mini size are the two classic McFlurry flavors you'll always find on the menu — Oreo and M&M's. But as McDonald's often releases limited-time or seasonal flavors, I'm looking forward to seeing if we get any special mini flavors soon.

The $1 Jr. Frosty at Wendy's is cheaper (right now).

Through Sept. 15, the Wendy's Jr. Frosty is just $1 — for both the chocolate and vanilla flavors. At six ounces, this works out to $0.17 per ounce, an even better deal than the Mini McFlurry.

But when this deal ends and the Jr. Frosty goes back up to $2.19, you'll be paying $0.37 per ounce compared to the $0.28 per ounce of the Mini McFlurry.
