Kroger Boost Membership: What It Costs (And How to Get a Discount)

While a Kroger Shopper’s Card is 100% free, you’re going to have to pay extra for a Kroger Boost membership. That is, if you want benefits like free Kroger delivery on orders of $35 or more, the ability to earn extra Kroger Fuel Points on every dollar you spend, and as of Sept. 30, 2024, a free streaming subscription for certain plans (more on that below).

A Kroger Boost membership costs $59 - $99 per year at regular price, but it’s definitely worth joining if you order Kroger grocery delivery at least eight times a year. That’s because with Boost, you get unlimited free deliveries on orders of $35 or more — which saves you $7.95 - $10.95 in delivery fees per order. And signing up for Boost is also how you get exclusive offers and freebie deals that are only sent to members.

So if you live near a Kroger (or one of their affiliate stores like Fry’s or Fred Meyer), let me help you decide which Kroger Boost membership to spring for and how to save on the cost. You’ll also want to learn how to save while you shop with our best Kroger couponing tips.

How Much You'll Pay for Kroger Boost Memberships

There are two types of Kroger Boost memberships to choose from, and the main difference is how quickly you’d like your groceries delivered.

Signing up for either membership level will require you to get a (free) Kroger Shopper’s Card account first.

Option 1: Next-Day Boost ($7.99 per month, or $59 a year)

The cheaper of the two Boost memberships costs $7.99 per month, or $59 per year if you pay annually.

With the basic Boost membership, you’ll get 2x Kroger Fuel Points on your purchases plus free deliveries on orders of $35 or more. But the earliest you can get your delivery is next day. You'll likely need to choose this plan if you don't live near a physical Kroger store, as your deliveries will come from a distribution center.

New perk alert: Starting Sept. 30, 2024, every $59 Boost membership includes a FREE six-month subscription to one of the following streaming services: Hulu (with ads), Disney+ Basic (with ads), or ESPN+. Just activate the benefit in your account to get started.

Best Value: $59 a year

If you think you’ll use the Next-Day Boost membership for at least eight months continuously (and place at least eight delivery orders), it’s definitely worth signing up for the annual plan right off the bat.

That's because the annual plan ($59 billed yearly) breaks down to a cost of about $4.92 a month. After eight months of using the service, that adds up to $39.36.

If you were to pay by the month ($7.99 billed monthly) for eight months, you would have paid $63.92, which is more than the cost of the annual plan.

Option 2: Same-Day Boost ($12.99 per month, or $99 a year)

The more expensive Boost membership costs $12.99 per month, or $99 per year if you pay annually, but it’s not available in all areas (check your zip code eligibility on the Kroger website).

Just like with the standard Boost membership, the more expensive Boost membership gets you 2x Kroger Fuel Points on your purchases. But the difference is that you get free same-day delivery (in as little as two hours) on orders of at least $35.

New perk alert: Starting Sept. 30, 2024, every $99 Boost membership includes a FREE subscription to one of the following streaming services: Hulu (with ads), Disney+ Basic (with ads), or ESPN+. You'll just need to activate the benefit in your account.

Best Value: $99 a year

As long as you think you’ll use the Same-Day Boost membership for at least eight months (and place at least eight delivery orders), it’s worth signing up for the annual plan.

With the annual plan ($99 billed yearly), you're paying about $8.25 a month.

If you were to pay by the month ($12.99 billed monthly) for eight months, you'd have paid $103.92, which is more than the cost of the annual plan.

KCL TIP: With either level of membership, you typically won’t have to tip your delivery driver, as the deliveries are handled by a Kroger employee. However, in some areas, deliveries are handled by Instacart, so a tip for good service may be expected.

How to Get a Kroger Boost Membership Discount

1. Sign up for a free 30-day trial to see if you like it first.

If you're not sold on joining yet, you can try out a Kroger Boost membership for free with their 30-day free trial offer. You can cancel your trial any time before the 30 days ends (just set a reminder in your calendar so you don’t forget).

The only drawback with the free trial is that you won’t be eligible to receive certain exclusive digital coupons and freebies that are offered to regular, paid members.

2. Get 50% off your first year when you sign up during Boost Bonus Days.

During Boost Bonus Days (July 10 - 23, 2024), we shared a deal where you could sign up for a new Boost membership for 50% off if you clipped a digital coupon in your Kroger Plus account.

We fully expect this offer (and Boost Bonus Days) to pop up again sometime in October — likely around the time we're expecting the next Amazon Prime Day to happen.

KCL TIP: The first Boost Bonus Days event in July 2024 included several exclusive digital coupons that you could redeem for free products, plus special deals on cereal, bacon, trail mix, sandwich zip bags, and more.

3. Look for a $20 off Boost membership coupon — then combine it with other delivery offers to save more.

From time to time, we see a $20 off Boost membership coupon pop up in the Kroger app (iOS / Android). If you're able to combine this offer with other clippable savings — like “$10 off delivery orders of $75 or more,” for example — you’ll boost your savings even higher on your first few delivery orders.

4. Join when you see exclusive 5x digital deals — these can make up for the cost of your membership fee.

You've gotta do a little "Boost math" for this hack, but here's how it goes. If you sign up for a Boost membership when they're offering member-exclusive grocery deals, you can cash in on the offers to cover your signup costs.

For example, during Boost Customer Appreciation Week in September 2024, a handful of exclusive digital coupons could be used up to five times in a single transaction, letting you really cash in on the savings on things like lunch meat, sugar, chips, bread, and candy.

"It makes it worthy in that the savings received make up for the cost of the membership," says KCL Kroger couponing expert Sarah V.

5. Earn a free 1-year Kroger Boost membership if you're approved for their credit card.

If you were thinking about applying for a Kroger credit card anyway, know that if you’re approved, you’ll receive a waiver within 10 days that you can redeem for one free year of Next-Day Boost membership (worth $59).

You can also choose to upgrade your free membership to the Same-Day tier (if it’s available in your area) and only pay the difference ($40).
