If you’re a teacher or school administrator who needs to buy school supplies for your own kids, listen up. The Dollar General teacher discount pops up every back-to-school season, and it’ll save you 30% on a purchase — as long as you verify your status in advance using a few simple steps.
During the height of the back-to-school shopping season, we usually find a few Dollar General deals that make their prices even lower than Walmart’s, as long as you apply your teacher discount.
Here’s how the DG teacher discount works and how to maximize your savings during the offer window from early July to mid-September.

The Dollar General teacher discount gives you 30% off one purchase between July and September.
Every back-to-school season, Dollar General makes a teacher discount available. We usually see this offer pop up around the second week of July, and it lasts until the first week of September.
In 2024, the discount was 30% off one purchase from July 9 - Sept. 6. You could qualify for this discount if you are a teacher, educator, or administrator. In 2025, look for the discount to pop up around July 8 if the same pattern sticks.

Sign up for the discount on Dollar General's website.
You have to visit their website before you make a purchase in order to sign up for the Dollar General teacher discount. Just visit the teacher page on their website while the offer is active (between July and September), scroll down to the "Bonus Savings for Teachers" banner, then select the “Sign up” button.
You’ll be asked to vouch for yourself as a teacher, educator, or administrator. You’ll need to provide the school name and school address, too. You can opt into special promotional emails during the process, but it’s not required.
Clip the teacher coupon in the DG app a day or two later.
It takes anywhere from 24 – 48 hours for your teacher discount coupon to appear in your account. So a day or two after you sign up, you should see the 30% off coupon pop up in your DG app‘s coupon section.
Make sure to clip the coupon before you shop or else you won’t be able to use it! When you shop at the store, just enter your phone number on the pin pad at the register and the coupon will be automatically applied.
You can use only the teacher discount once.
There is definitely a limit on how many times you can use your teacher discount. In 2023, the limit was four times. But in 2024, you could only use the 30% off coupon one time.
So make sure you use it on your largest order rather than making a bunch of small purchases.

You can't stack the teacher discount with other coupons.
Bummer, but true. Depending on the current sales, the 30% off Dollar General discount can get you an even lower price on select items than you'd get shopping the Walmart back-to-school sale. But it’s really gonna depend on the item you’re buying and your timing.
