Over the past several years, lots of us (we’re talking over 44% of households) have said goodbye to cable and moved to the many, many streaming services available. It’s great to have options, and the streamers have forced everyone to kick it up a notch with binge-worthy content. But then the inevitable happens: you’ve gotta watch something that’s on a live broadcast channel — so now you’re trying to figure out how to watch the Super Bowl for free.

If you’re not a cable subscriber and you’re wondering how in the world you’re going to watch the NFL’s biggest game of the year between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 12, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. ET airing on FOX, we’ve got you covered. Because yeah, there are ways to watch the exciting matchup (even for free).

Below we’re going to share how you can tune in without paying a dime.

First things first: When is the Super Bowl happening?

The biggest game in American football will be played at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, February 12, 2023 — although the highest-budget commercials of the year start before that. And don’t forget about halftime show performer Rihanna.

How to Watch Super Bowl for Free Without Cable

If you’re looking to catch the Super Bowl without cable, no worries! There are plenty of ways to do it for free that don’t involve driving to a sports bar or sitting in front of someone’s living room window. Keep in mind that the availability of these options may vary depending on your location.

Over-the-Air Antenna

If you don’t have cable and you’re not too tech-savvy, your best bet might be to get out the old “rabbit ears.”

Most cities have a Fox affiliate, so if you plug in an antenna and do a channel search, you’ll probably find your local Fox station. (This is how I did it last year, and it took some finagling to catch the signal just right.)

If you don’t have an antenna, you can still buy one and get it with same-day pickup. Here are some of the best rated under $20:

Sign up for a streaming service free trial that carries FOX.

Some of the more expensive streaming services have free trials, so you can watch the big game and then try out some of the services’ premium features (without spending any money).

These streaming services work with Smart TVs, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and smartphones:

  • FuboTV: 7 days free trial, then $74.99/month
  • Sling TV: 3 days free trial, then $40/month for Orange or Blue Package or $55/month for both (50% off any package right now!)
  • YouTube TV: 2 weeks free trial, then $54.99 for the first 3 months then $64.99/month

Be sure to cancel before your trial ends to avoid subscription charges.

Get NFL+ for $4.99 a month — but you have to watch it on a mobile device.

Okay, so this option isn’t free, BUT for a limited time you can sign up for NFL+ for only $4.99 a month. Sign up and watch the Super Bowl for less than five bucks. Compared to $4,000, the cheapest price for a Super Bowl ticket, it’s a steal. Downside, you have to watch it on your mobile device instead of the stands.

Watch the game in a sports bar or a restaurant.

Find a local sports bar or restaurant that’s showing the game and watch it for free. Of course, you may end up buying food or drink. However, some restaurants offer big game freebies and discounts. Here are a few chains known to have televised sports:

Also: If you’ve got a family member, friend, or neighbor that’s throwing a Super Bowl party and will be watching the game, be sure to get on the invite list. You may have to bring a dish or game day snack to share with other partygoers, but you won’t have to pay for cable. And that qualifies as a touchdown.
