Watch out, Walmart! Target has joined grocery chains Aldi and Kroger in lowering prices this summer by announcing on May 20 that they will be discounting prices on over 5,000 frequently shopped items — and shoppers can already see price cuts on 1,500 items online and in-store.

While Aldi is rolling back prices on more than 250 items through Labor Day and Kroger is promising "locked-in-low prices" on grilling staples like Ball Park Frank Hot Dogs, Kroger Brand Ketchup and Mustard, Target is taking aim at inflation by marking down food — such as milk, meat, bread, and produce — as well as everyday essentials, like paper towels, diapers and toilet paper.

Wondering how to find these discounts at Target and how they stack up? Here's everything we know.

These discounts are modest, but you will find them on Target brands like Good & Gather and Everspring, as well as name brands. According to the release, the new prices will be reflected in-store with red tags, as well as online at Target.com and the Target app.

How do these Target price drops compare to Walmart's prices?

With these just-announced price drops, we're seeing that Target prices are coming in-line with Walmart. Target is not dipping below Walmart prices, but with the items we're seeing so far, they are falling within pennies to Walmart's final prices.

So if Walmart is your go-to store because you think the prices are cheapest, it might be worth checking out Target's red tags first to make sure. Want proof? Take Huggies Baby Wipes (16 ct), now $0.99 (reg. price $1.19) at Target. At Walmart, the same item is $1.08.

These price drops come just two months after Target launched Circle360, making it easy for shoppers to save more.

Target rebranded their Target Circle app in April, where shoppers can get a free basic membership or a paid membership for $99 annually. With the free basic membership, you have access to Target Circle Rewards and member-exclusive sales. And they made couponing at Target a whole lot easier by:

  • Coupons now automatically applying in Circle.

  • Allowing manufacturer coupons with online orders. (Kroger is the only other store that allows this!).

Other stores are also offering summer savings and rollbacks.
