You don't have to be a home design buff to get sucked into the vortex that is Wayfair. The online furniture and home decor retailer has seemingly endless options across every category from wallpaper to sofas. And while there are plenty of Wayfair deals to enjoy (including some killer Open Box prices), sometimes you want to branch out with other affordable options. Because, yes, there are stores like Wayfair to refresh your space on a budget.

And you know what? Some of those stores are easy on returns, unlike the Wayfair Return Policy which is pretty strict. So let's get down to it, but please do check out our Wayfair hacks to save whenever you shop them. Because we do not pay full price. Like ever.

Online Furniture Stores Like Wayfair

Every single one of these stores has online ordering and ship to at least the 48 contiguous states (sorry, Hawaii and Alaska — we promise there are some here for you, too).

Amazon

Friends, of course Amazon is going to enter the affordable furniture chat. First, they have us at free two-day shipping for Prime members. And the Amazon Return Policy is very forgiving. But more than that, we find that their prices are often cheaper than Wayfair on quite a bit of furniture, wallpaper, picture frames — you name it. Because of Amazon's dynamic pricing, they have the ability to quickly match Way Day prices even if they aren't in the middle of their own blowout sale.

Ashley HomeStore

If you're looking for affordable furniture priced like Wayfair, Ashley Furniture is a place to look. They even have an outlet section of their website where you can get a 42" dining bench for just $79. A similar dining bench at Wayfair is priced comparably at $77 on sale. Ashley has 777 stores in the U.S., but offers free ground shipping on a large number of items, making online shopping more affordable.

*Ships to all 50 states, but only the contiguous 48 receive free standard shipping

Bed Bath & Beyond

You can take away their brick-and-mortars but you can't kill that Bed Bath & Beyond spirit — it's all online, baby. In their latest incarnation, Bed Bath & Beyond is a fierce competitor among stores like Wayfair. While they haven't established a full calendar of sales, like say the Wayfair Anniversary Sale or their 5 Days of Deals, Bed Bath & Beyond's everyday prices are on par with Wayfair.

For example, outdoor patio rugs roughly start at $18 at both retailers. Similarly, standard size sofas (seating at least 3 people) also start around $170 at both Bed Bath & Beyond and Wayfair.

*Ships to all 50 states with some limitations to Alaska and Hawaii

Bob's Discount Furniture

As the name suggests, Bob's Discount Furniture offers pieces at pretty significant discount prices. Recently we found high-backed counter stools for just $50 apiece, whereas at Wayfair a counter stool with similar backing started at $140. But these two are certainly worth price comparing. We found nearly identical writing desks at each store, but Wayfair's price is $42.99 while Bob's is $100.

*Ships to the 48 contiguous states

Etsy

Before you throw your arms in the air over us suggesting an online marketplace largely known for crafts more so than furniture, hear us out. Etsy has furniture, people. Some of it is handmade, some of it is upcycled, and some of it is pretty freakin' expensive. But some of it is not! So, yes, you can find some affordable pieces on Etsy and you really should give them a chance. We've found small, handcrafted coffee tables for around $85 (with free shipping!) and headboards for $83.

The best way to search for furniture on Etsy is to punch in the item you're looking for into the search bar, then filter by the sellers offering free shipping. This way you know you won't be on the hook for shipping charges.

*Shipping availability is dependent on seller

H&M Home

Particularly if you're furnishing a small space, H&M Home has some super cheap items that are minimalist but come in a variety of colors. The first of these that come to mind is their Small Side Table ($19.99, HM.com) and a Metal Night Stand ($79.99). But where you'll really make out like a bandit is in home accessories, with scented candles starting at $4.99 and patterned cushion covers for $5.99.

*Ships to all 50 states

Ikea

Is there any store more synonymous with affordable furniture than Ikea? If you disagree, that's probably because the retailer did hike up their prices quite a bit over the last five years. However, in 2024, they also made a good faith effort to lower prices on a number of items.

Ikea's Billy Bookcase ($39), which is a standard, no-frills piece of furniture, has been a staple of the Swedish retailer for decades. By comparison, a bookshelf at Wayfair, which is actually 30" shorter than Ikea's Billy, retails for $62.99. Our biggest gripe with Ikea is their shipping fees, which are astronomical (small orders start at $5 and large items start at $19 — emphasis on start at). But if you have the ability to buy online, pickup in store, then Ikea can beat Wayfair's prices by quite a bit.

*Ships to continental U.S. only

Living Spaces

Among the stores like Wayfair, Living Spaces is similar in the sense that they also offer Open Box deals and have pretty generous Summer Clearance sales. One bonus to Living Spaces is that they have 40 stores across California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma, making it easier for customers in those states to view their merch in person before buying. Wayfair, on the other hand, only has one true brick-and-mortar, and four outlet stores dotted across the U.S.

You can get a 66" futon for around $250 at Living Spaces, whereas a futon of the same length on Wayfair starts at $130.

*Delivers only to the lower 48 states

Nathan James

When there's a pricy piece of furniture we want, our first stop is Nathan James to see if they have a dupe. Now they almost always have some kind of a sale going, so you should never pay full price. Their Wood Herringbone TV Cabinet, regularly priced at $239.99, was marked down to $79.99 at the time of publication. That's 67% off (and looks like it's from West Elm). Plus (you're going to love this), Nathan James offers free shipping and free 100-day returns.

*Ships to the 48 contiguous states

Overstock

When Overstock became Bed Bath & Beyond, but then splintered off to be Overstock again, it was all kinds of confusing. The two online retailers are under the same company umbrella, extremely similar inventory. Overstock, however, carries a lot more than just home furnishings, like jewelry and clothing. Either way, Overstock is still among stores like Wayfair because they sell furniture and home decor at low prices. Like Wayfair, Overstock's coffee tables start at $40, and you can find outdoor furniture pieces starting at under $100.

*Ships to the 48 contiguous states, with plans to expand shipping to Alaska and Hawaii

TJMaxx

Is TJMaxx a furniture store in the traditional sense? No, it is not. But is TJMaxx similar to stores like Wayfair in other ways? Yes, yes it is. TJMaxx is owned by the same folks who operate HomeGoods. And while HomeGoods did away with their online shopping presence, TJMaxx still offers furniture and other home accessories on their website.

We've seen outdoor pendant lights at TJMaxx for $20, which beats Wayfair prices on similar items by at least $5 if not more. Similarly, small outdoor side tables are around $29 at TJMaxx, whereas at Wayfair they start around $33. You won't find as big of a furniture and home decor selection at TJMaxx, but it's definitely worth a look.
