Sept. 9 is National Teddy Bear Day, y'all, and Build-A-Bear does something a little special for the event each year. For example, in 2024 you could get a Lil' Cub Brownie Teddy Bear or Lil' Cub Pudding Teddy Bear for just $9 each (regularly $16). No word yet on if the 2025 promotion will be the same.

Believe it or not, that $9 is rollback pricing to 1997 (the year Build-A-Bear first opened). That means the price of the Lil' Cub has increased by nearly 44% over the past 27 years.

Thankfully there are other ways to save at the retailer — like the Build-A-Bear birthday discount and occasional Build-A-Bear coupons.

Build-A-Bear's National Teddy Bear Day event is a once-a-year, 1-day deal for $9 Lil' Cub Teddy Bears.

For years now, Build-A-Bear has been getting in on the National Teddy Bear Day action with a special offer for shoppers. In 2024 they rolled back the price on their Lil' Cub Teddy Bears (the Brownie Bear and Pudding Bear varieties) to $9 (regularly $16) for one day only, on Sept. 9. The deal was available in store and online.

The next Build-A-Bear National Teddy Bear Day offer will take place on Sept. 9, 2025.

National Teddy Bear Day is an annual event that always lands on Sept. 9, and Build-A-Bear always has a corresponding deal.

Tips for Shopping the Sale

Choose "Buy Online, Pick Up In Store" if shopping BuildaBear.com to avoid shipping fees.

Getting a teddy bear for $9 is great; paying $7.95 for shipping (only a dollar less than the bear) isn't. In order to reach Build-A-Bear's free shipping threshold you have to spend $75, so when possible choose the "Buy Online, Pick Up In Store" option instead. Under an item's product details, you should see which store closest to you has the item in stock. Then, at checkout, you can choose in-store pickup at that location instead of shipping.

Join Build-A-Bear Bonus Club to earn points on your purchase.

Generally speaking, these bears ain't cheap (the $9 Lil' Club special being the exception), so you want to make sure you're earning something on every purchase. The Build-A-Bear Bonus Club is the retailer's loyalty program and it's free to join. You'll earn 1 point for every $1 spent (minus tax and fees). When you reach 100 points (or $100 spent), you'll receive a $10 rewards certificate that's valid for 90 days from the date of issue. You can use the reward on everything from bears, clothing, and accessories, either in store or online.
