Dollar General first announced back in January 2023 that they were joining up with the cash-back and rebate app Ibotta to help stretch your shopping budget a little further at the dollar store.
Well, that partnership is officially up and running, and it means that the "Cash Back" deals you see in the Deals section of the Dollar General app are actually Ibotta offers, which is both a blessing and a curse (as I'll explain).
This type of partnership between a retailer and Ibotta isn’t new, as we saw Walmart join forces with Ibotta to launch Walmart Cash rewards. But Dollar General is the first of the dollar store bunch to join the fray.
So how do Dollar General cash-back offers work? Let’s break it all down.

Dollar General cash-back offers appear in the DG app and website.
As of summer 2023, cash back rebates are now appearing in the Dollar General app. You can find these offers in the Deals tab of your Dollar General app, under the "Coupons & Cash Back" section.
These offers work like digital coupons, meaning you'll have to actually add them to your account before you shop.
Follow these steps to use Dollar General Cash Back offers:
Select a Cash Back offer to see the detail page.
Select "Add deal."
At checkout, enter your phone number to link your account.
Get the cash back in your DG Wallet within 24 - 48 hours.
Once the DG Cash is in your account, you'll use it like a gift card. In the store, just have the cashier scan the code in your DG Wallet and tell them the amount you'd like to apply to your purchase.
And Dollar General offers are still in the Ibotta app, but you can't double dip.
If you don’t see any good "Cash Back" rebates listed in the Deals section of the DG app, you can still use the Ibotta app to claim rebates on items purchased at Dollar General. But just know that you can't do both, meaning you can't redeem an Ibotta offer and a Dollar General Cash Back offer for the same item, in the same transaction.
If you're using the Ibotta app with Dollar General deals, you'll also need to link your Dollar General account to your Ibotta before you shop (Ibotta no longer accepts photos of the DG receipt).
Check the "Rebates" section of the DG app for additional savings.
In the Deals tab of your DG app, you'll also see a section for "Rebates," which are not the same thing as the Cash Back offers (and they're primarily for alcohol). Another difference with Dollar General Rebates is that you'll need to link a PayPal account in order to earn your money back.
Here are a few examples of recent Dollar General Rebates I've seen in the app:
$3 Rebate via PayPal on the purchase of a 12-pack of Twisted Tea
$5 Rebate via PayPay on the purchase of an 8-pack of Nutrl
$5 Rebate via PayPay on the purchase of an 8-pack of Busch and two bags of Jack Link's
Dollar General Cash Back offers are great for lazy couponers and newbies.
These days, my focus is on convenient couponing. While some may view it as lazy, I see it as a smarter way to save. If I can get an Ibotta rebate by simply “clipping it” in the Dollar General app, count me in!
Combining Ibotta rebates with DG offers simplifies the process a bit, and can definitely streamline your process of couponing at Dollar General.
But the downside is that Krazy couponers can no longer combine DG digital coupons with cash-back offers. In the past, you could clip a digital Dollar General coupon and then submit your paper receipt to Ibotta to get a rebate. But many of the Cash Back offers have restrictions that prevent you from stacking them with other coupons or promotions.
