Unprecedented deals have come with the reopening of discount department stores Ross and TJMaxx — and now rival Burlington is ready to have their turn.
Stores started opening this week, but the majority will open May 15 for a never-before-seen storewide sale.
EVERYTHING is marked down, so look for serious discounts on clothing, baby, furniture, home decor items, pet supplies, and gifts.
If you’re willing to join the long lines and capacity crowds, here’s what you need to know:
For the first time EVER, all clothing and shoes are 50% off Burlington prices.
That’s not 50% off retail price. That’s 50% off the Burlington price, which is already up to 60% off retail, so expect to find 80% off regular store prices.
A day ago, a Reddit user shared a markdown for some Nike Men’s Zm Streak Spectrum Plus shoes for $25.00 (reg. $150) — that’s 83% off.
Everything else is 25% off storewide — but more discounts are coming.
Originally billed as a 50% off everything sale, shoppers are finding now that 50% off only applies to clothing and shoes. The rest of the store is 25% off Burlington prices — still a killer deal.
But if you wait, you might see additional markdowns as Burlington looks to get rid of merchandise. Stores reassess markdowns starting on Sundays, generally. This isn’t the only time you’ll see deep discounts from Burlington in the near future.

Although you can search Burlington’s website to get information about your local store, Burlington isn’t saying when local stores are opening. They’re just saying “Re-opening soon.” Chances are, if your store says that, your store likely opens May 15 for the two-day sale.
Stores in areas that are still locked down, like New York, still say “Temporarily closed.”
Expect a steady influx of new inventory.
Like TJMaxx, Ross, and Marshalls, Burlington gets their inventory from mainline retailers who offload products that have been on their shelves for too long.
As department stores reopen and get rid of aging product lines (or as stores file bankruptcy and liquidate), Burlington will get plenty of discounted goods.
Can’t be at Burlington on Friday? Markdowns usually happen early in the week.
A Burlington store manager in Atlanta told Clark that markdowns typically happen Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays But with an abundance of stuff to sell quickly, markdowns could become a daily occurrence.
Come armed with a discount gift card to save even more.
There are a bunch of discounted gift cards available at Raise.com right now, saving you an additional 5 – 6%. You can buy gift cards with a face value as low as $10 or as high as $200.
With super deep discounts like the ones happening at Burlington, those savings could mean a free shirt or two.
There’s no online shopping for Burlington — yet.
Although TJMaxx has reopened their website, no such luck with Burlington.
You used to be able to shop at burlington.com. The website now says their e-commerce operations are being reimagined, and a new version of the site is “coming soon.” So in store is your only option right now.
