Oct. 29 update: As of right now, there are no free samples available through the Send Me a Sample skill. We're getting the dreaded, "We're sorry, but we don't have any samples available," response. We'll keep checking and let you know when free samples return.

Not everyone knows this, but Amazon Alexa will give you free samples if you ask. This Alexa hack sounds too good to be true, but I tried it out myself and it’s 100% legit. And, unlike some other Amazon freebies, you don’t even need an Amazon Prime membership! Here’s everything you need to know about Amazon Alexa free samples, including how to sign up, the fine print restrictions, and what’s available right now. That way, you can start getting your freebies without a lot of hassle.

Most recently, you could get the following items:

Samples of Spindrift Sparkling Water. You get a choice of Nojito or Blood Orange Tangerine flavor.

Cat Food (Wellness Appetizing Entrees). You get a choice of Shredded Chicken and Duck, Flaked Tuna, or Mousse Chicken.

These samples usually go quickly. We last successfully ordered both the above samples on Oct. 15.

In the past, we've seen freebies from Drunk Elephant, DripDrop, and more.

On Oct. 15, Alexa offered us various flavors of Spindrift sparkling water and Wellness Appetizing Entress cat food.

First, you’ll need to enable the “Send Me a Sample” skill in your Alexa App.

You’ll need to add the “Send Me a Sample” skill to your device. The skill is completely free to add, and the samples ship free. You don’t have to input any payment methods at all. And, you don’t even need to be a Prime member to cash in on the deal. So in this case, it truly is a freebie.

You can add the skill via the Alexa App, or through the skill’s Amazon page. (Unfortunately, you can’t add it directly through Alexa herself. But she will give you instructions!) Once you enable the skill, you’ll need to create and link your Send Me a Sample account. The account itself is pretty easy to set up. You just need to confirm your age, email address, and shipping address. If you miss a step, Alexa will tell you what needs to be done to get the skill up and running.

Then ask Alexa for samples.

Simply speak "Alexa (or whatever your wake word is), send me a sample," into your Alexa-enabled device. Or, open the Alexa app, hit the blue Alexa icon and say the same thing.

Here's the tricky part. Alexa will then ask you which sample you'd like. If you know a sample is available, you can say, for example, "Spindrift," and Alexa will tell you if that sample is still available. But if you're not sure what's available, you can simply say, "What samples are available?" Alexa will tell you what's available. Or she'll respond with the dreaded, "No samples are available at this time." And you'll have to check back.

Some samples are age-restricted.

There’s a pretty big variety of freebies available, but there are some limitations. Remember when you needed to confirm your age? That’s because sometimes there are alcohol or energy drink samples. Amazon follows the laws and ordinances of your area. So for example, in the UK you’ll have to confirm you’re older than 18 for alcohol, but in America, you’ll need to confirm you’re older than 21.

New Amazon Alexa samples arrive throughout the year.

The samples are only available while supplies last. But, there are new samples being added frequently to replace the out-of-stock items. Be sure to check your Alexa app or SendMeASample.net often to see what’s in stock.

You can ask for multiple samples at a time, so long as they’re all different products. In other words, you can only get one of each product per mailing address. You can select to receive only the samples you request or opt to automatically receive samples similar to the ones you tried before.
