Finding affordable baby formula can definitely be a challenge for new parents. Just think about it: with your infant needing formula for their first year, that’s easily over $1,500 just on that stuff alone. It can be a serious stressor on folks who are also operating on very little sleep. But don’t worry, you’re not alone in needing to save money on baby formula. Many parents are in the same boat, trying to find a good balance between affordability and quality when it comes to feeding baby.

Keep an eye out for promotions, compare prices, and never hesitate to ask for recommendations from other parents or your pediatrician. Trust me, finding affordable baby formula is possible, and you’ll feel much better knowing you’re taking care of both your baby and your budget.

Here are all the ways you can save without emptying your bank account, including tips for how to get those coveted coupons for baby formula:

(Psst: For the best deals on formula, including special offers and alerts for baby formula coupons, download the KCL app. We’ll keep you updated.)

1. Sign up for coupon programs with Similac, Enfamil, and Gerber as soon as you’re expecting.

As soon as you know you’ll be welcoming a baby into your family, sign up for free loyalty programs like Similac Rewards, Enfamil Rewards, and the MyGerber Baby membership. Then have your partner sign up for them, too. And maybe your mom.

You’ll all start receiving samples and monthly high-value baby formula coupons (like $5 – $10 off for at least the first year). There’s also a free Gerber baby gift you’ll get via email when you sign up for a MyGerber Baby membership and spend $150 in one purchase.

2. Call these companies for free baby formula coupons when you run out.

After the question of where to buy baby formula, the next challenge is finding coupons on a regular basis.

As a rewards program member, you can expect to receive high-value baby formula coupons from the manufacturer, but it may not be enough to get discounts on every can you buy.

Call the company and ask if you can have a few extra coupons to help you continue buying their brand.

  • Similac Rewards: (800) 515-7677

  • Enfamil Family Beginnings: (800) 222-9123

  • MyGerber Baby: (800) 284-9488

3. Or just follow KCL for baby formula coupons and deals.

4. Get free baby formula coupons and discounts when you sign up for ALL the baby registries.

Of course, we hacked the baby registry game to find the best baby registries for free stuff— but can you blame us? These popular retailers hand out all sorts of freebies and discounts after you create a baby registry. The freebies change often, but there’s usually at least a free bottle and some high-value formula coupons, like $2 off one container. Target Baby Registries are one of our favorites when it comes to freebies.

6. Powdered formula can save you $0.12 an ounce over ready-to-feed formula.

Powdered baby formula (once prepared) is about half the cost of ready-to-feed formula in liquid form.

For example, you can purchase a 28.3-ounce can of powdered Enfamil NeuroPro Infant Formula for around $41.99 at Target as of January 2023. According to the label, you’ll get about 202 ounces of drinkable (prepared) formula from the can, which comes out to about $0.19 per ounce.

Purchasing premixed Enfamil liquid formula will cost $0.31 per ounce on average. In the end, you’ll save about $0.12/ounce when you buy powdered baby formula.

7. Get a travel powder dispenser instead of expensive liquid formula for on-the-go feedings.

At first, I thought I had to purchase spendy liquid formula in order to leave the house with food for my baby. Then I discovered this little $3.69 powder formula dispenser that makes the challenge of how to travel with baby formula a breeze!

I kept the three compartments fully measured and in my diaper bag, so all I had to do was fill a bottle with water, pour, and shake.

8. If your baby hates the formula, return it for a refund.

If you realize your baby has trouble digesting a certain type or brand of formula, you don’t have to keep it. Take advantage of the satisfaction guarantees offered by the company or retailer and return the unfinished can for a refund.

Then call the manufacturer and let them know the formula upset your baby’s stomach. They’ll often send you a free sample of another variety (for example, a formula for sensitive tummies) because they want to keep your business.

9. Take all the hospital freebies.

We all know this one, but don’t be shy while you’re still in the hospital after delivery. If a new nurse shows up and asks if you’d like another formula sample, smile and say, “Sure!”
