Dollar Tree Halloween Costumes for Kids

Dollar Tree is a simple start for budget-friendly DIY Halloween costumes. Most of these costumes only need two to three items, so the price can be under $10 for each look. These are all no-sew ideas and can be put together with a safety pin or hot glue (which can also be found at Dollar Tree).

If you’re all about Dollar Tree, you’ll dig these tips too:

1. DIY Dollar Tree Halloween chef costume for $6.25.

With a few Dollar Tree kitchen items — or those around your house — you can design a chef-inspired Halloween costume.

What you’ll need:

Tie on the apron and use the pockets to hold a spatula and a whisk. Chef’s hats can start at $6, but you can make one from white tissue paper or paper. Measure your child’s head, then roll and tape the paper to fit their head. If kitchen aprons aren’t available at your store, get a craft apron and a kitchen towel to make your own.

2. Dollar Tree salt and pepper Halloween costume costs a total of $8.75.

One set of costumes for under $9? Yes, please. Add this duo with the chef costume from above and you’ve got matching, cheap Halloween costumes for the whole family.

What you’ll need:

What to do:

  1. Cut out an “S” and “P” from felt or paper, and glue them onto contrasting black and white construction paper.
  2. Pin or glue each salt and pepper label onto matching outfits.
  3. Then, using glitter paint or plain paint with glitter mixed in, dab each colander with paint for texture and fun “shaker” hats. Use string to make a proper shaker hat that stays put.
  4. Complete the look with black and white gloves, which can also be found at Dollar Tree.

3. Dollar Tree ice cream cone costume for kids for $5.

Dollar Tree’s party and crafts sections have a bunch of colorful supplies to make this a cheap project. Some stores even have T-shirts, making this a one-stop shop for your DIY costume.

What you’ll need:

What to do:

  1. Make the “sprinkles” by cutting the construction paper or felt into confetti-shaped pieces.
  2. Hot glue the attach sprinkles to a solid colored shirt.
  3. Depending on the size of your party hat, cut the poster board into the shape shown above, making sure it’ll be big enough to cover the party hat completely.
  4. With a waffle cone in mind, draw intersecting lines on the poster board to create diamond shapes like you’d find on a cone.
  5. Glue the poster board onto the party hat, overlapping the bottom corners to create a cone shape.

My Dollar Tree had funky ice cream sunglasses to complete the look. You never know what great add-ons your store will have, so look around every corner.

Cat Halloween costumes are old school, but if you’re in a pinch for an idea, it totally works. Dollar Tree’s vary with their animal-print items, but I’ve consistently found eye masks, cat ears, and tails amongst the beauty and toy aisles.

What you’ll need:

What to do:

    1. Make the ears by cutting the eye mask in half, from top to bottom. Then cut off the band that would normally go around your head too.
    2. Hot glue the cut side of each half to the black headband.
    3. Add about a half-inch line of hot glue to the center-top of each “ear” and pinch the ends together to create a more natural cat-ear shape.
    4. For the gloves, cut a hole for each thumb, then a separate hole for the rest of your fingers in the closed part of each sock. Turn socks inside-out before wearing.
    5. Glue the cat toy to the lower back of a black shirt. Then add a scarf or other animal-print items.

9. Easy $1.25 DIY ghost Halloween costume from Dollar Tree.
