Sometimes your living spaces need a little spruce-up, and sometimes it needs a huge redo. Either way, it doesn’t have to break your budget.
There are plenty of ways to redecorate your living room without going into debt.
1. Find used furniture from thrift stores and save up to 95%.
This is always my first go-to store for tables, chairs and dressers — before I look anywhere else.
I found a wooden table at my local thrift store for $15.99 and later saw a similar one at Target for $343.99. No contest.
2. Check out sales on Wayfair and Target for rugs to save up to 82%.
Target and Wayfair run tons of sales and often have great deals on their area rugs. For example, we just saw a sale at Wayfair where you could find 5′ x 8′ rugs for $36 — originally $200!
3. Buy paint from the mis-tint shelf at Lowe’s for smaller projects and get up to 80% off.
Because they aren’t going to come in large amounts, they’re perfect for smaller projects, like painting a table, chair or even older frames.
TIP: When you’re shopping for larger amounts, shop at Home Depot during the Labor and Memorial Day sales where you could save $5 a gallon or $25 off a 5-gallon bucket.

4. Buy downloadable art prints from Etsy and have them printed for under $5.

You can find prints as low as $0.20 on Etsy’s site when you search for digital art downloads.
Then all you have to do is have them printed at a Walmart where you can get an 8″x10″ print for $2.84.
5. Look for frames at thrift stores and make them look brand new for 77% off.
Buying second-hand frames is one of the easiest things you can do to update your art. I have found tons of frames for $1, and if they aren’t the right color or have scratches, I just buff them and give them a fresh coat of paint.
I found one the other day at Goodwill for $0.69 that looked like one I had seen at Target for $3.
6. Rescue plants from Lowe’s clearance shelves to save up to 80%.
Once you’ve got your pots, you’re gonna need something to put in them. If you buy distressed plants from Lowe’s, you can get them up to 80% off and bring them back to life with that green thumb of yours.
TIP: Find cute pots on Amazon, or find cheap clay pots and paint them yourself like these when you can get 10 for $9.99.

7. Use Christmas clearance lights for mood lighting and save up to 90%.
And to make it less Christmassy, spray paint the green cord to silver, white or black. Make sure you take out the bulbs and stuff the sockets with tissue before painting. Also be sure to cover the plugs with painters tape to prevent the paint from getting in the wrong places.
The best time to pick some up is a couple weeks after Christmas at Target, when decorations hit 90% off.

8. Keep an eye on the Target clearance section and save 50% or more.

Besides the fact that Target is just by far one of the best places to go couponing, it has some pretty great clearance, too.
I recently found a candle that’s regularly $12.49 on sale for $6.49.
It’s always worth walking around their home section and checking out end-caps for rugs, clocks and decorations.
9. Buy new covers for your throw pillows at Walmart for under $5.
Such a super easy way to spruce up your area. I found plain ones at Walmart for $4.93 or decorative ones for $6.93.
You don’t need to buy an all-new set of pillows — just get covers for ones you already have.
10. Use books for a pop of color in your decorations.
I always have tons of books lying around my house and finally found out that not only are they great to have, but they make great decor.
Other places to find books are your local library book sale or at thrift stores where you can usually find them for under $1.
Stack up a few books on a side table to add some interest, or keep them on a bookshelf with flowers and framed photos.
11. Save up to 34% on lighting fixtures on Wayfair instead of West Elm.

I would love to shop at West Elm all the time, but it’s just not budget friendly.
I checked Wayfair and found a similar chandelier that saved me over $60.
12. Look for Home Depot clearance flooring about once a month to save 30-50% off.
When you can find wood laminate, tile, and bamboo flooring at this big of a discount, it’s probably a great time to buy.

13. Use wooden pallets or crates to create shelving.

The best place to find crates is at thrift stores and garage sales. Pallets are available a ton of places — like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or at various warehouses — and many times they’re free.
Stack crates to create a bookshelf, or hang them on the wall to create floating shelves. Pallets can be deconstructed to create inexpensive, shabby-chic furniture.
