Even kids can help with some 4th of July party ideas. Cut up your favorite berries, add them to an empty ice cube tray, and top them with water. You could also use lemonade, a clear lemon lime soda like Sprite, or make an adult beverage with alcohol, champagne. When it’s time to serve, add these fruity cubes to a beverage of your choice. Just be sure not to give kids the alcoholic one!

Party decorations shouldn’t have to cost a lot. Grab a Mason jar or an old can, add water, and blue food coloring. Then, stick in white carnations and red roses (to go with the holiday theme).

More time? Add food coloring to a vase with white flowers the day before to turn them colors. Do one with red and one with blue, then on the day of your party transfer the red, white, and blue flowers to a new vase.

3. Shield kids’ hands from sparkler burns with a plastic cup.

Sadly, I know all too well about sparkler burns. My 4-year-old son didn’t believe me when I told him that it was hot, but he picked it up anyway and we had to hear him cry in the car for 20 minutes. Learn from me and make a small hole at the bottom of a Solo cup and slide the sparkler through before burning. Tears are now smiles!
