Heads up: starting Jan. 29, you’ll find ads on your Prime Video TV shows and movies.
Amazon announced that they’ll start adding “limited advertisements” to Prime Video starting Jan. 29, 2023. Live sports events will also continue to have ads.
“This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time,” Amazon said in a statement. “We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.”
The good news is that no action is required from Amazon Prime viewers, and your Prime membership costs won’t change.

Don’t want the ads? Prime Video is offering a new ad-free option for $2.99 per month.
If you prefer to stream without any ads, Amazon will offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month. Kind of a bummer that we have to pay for no ads. That means your monthly Amazon Prime membership cost would go up from $14.99 to $17.98, or a yearly total of about $216.
