In case you haven’t heard, Walmart curbside pickup isn’t just for groceries. You can select in-store or curbside pickup for tons of Walmart finds, like kitchen essentials, clothing, home decor, school supplies, seasonal items, and so much more. And it’s totally free if your order is at least $35.

Their curbside pickup service is particularly handy if you want someone else to do the shopping for you, and if you don’t have a paid Walmart Plus membership (which would get you free Walmart delivery in most cases).

So how does Walmart curbside work? And what are Walmart’s pickup hours? We answered your questions right here and rounded up the five main things you need to know about Walmart pickup. And spoiler alert — you can’t use coupons on Walmart pickup orders.

You have two options for Walmart pickup: in store or contactless curbside.

Regardless of how you choose to pick up your items, you’ll begin your order and shop the same way.

All you have to do is start a pickup order on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app (iOS / Android), reserve a 1-hour time slot, and start shopping. Walmart usually gives you an hour to shop and complete your order before your reserved time slot expires.

When your order is ready, Walmart will send you an email (and a text message) to let you know. You’ll have the option to check in via the app to alert them that you’re on your way.

In-Store Pickup Process

When you arrive at the store, park in a designated pickup spot and head inside. Most Walmart stores will have pickup signs throughout the parking lot to direct you to the right door.

Curbside Pickup Process

Park in a designated pickup spot and stay in your car. Use the app to let them know you’ve arrived or call the number on the sign. You’ll need to indicate the spot number and the color of your car. Then, a Walmart associate will come out with your items and load them into your trunk or backseat.

Walmart pickup is available seven days a week.

Walmart pickup is available every day of the week, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time.

In my experience, if you place your pickup order before 5 p.m., you’ll likely still be able to pick it up that same day (during the 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. time slot). Otherwise, it’ll be ready to pick up the next morning starting at 7 a.m.

You have to spend at least $35 to avoid a pickup fee.

Walmart pickup is only free on orders of $35 or more. If your subtotal is any lower than that, you get charged a $6.99 “below order minimum” fee, as stated on the Walmart Help site.

The pickup minimum applies to Walmart Plus members, too.

Do you tip for curbside pickup at Walmart?

No. While you are encouraged to tip with Walmart delivery orders, you do not need to tip with curbside pickup, as Walmart employees are handling the whole process.

Thousands of items are eligible for pickup, but inventory depends on what your store has in stock.

Clothing, furniture, electronics, pet supplies — you name it. You can pick up pretty much anything you’d buy from Walmart. The only thing you need to remember is that you’re shopping at whichever local store you choose to pick up from.

So what you can and can’t pick up that same day depends on what’s in stock at that store. Still, every Walmart store more than 120,000 different items, so you always have plenty to choose from.

If you miss your pickup time, you have until the end of the day to reschedule or cancel your order.

It’s not a huge deal if you’re late picking up a Walmart order. You have until 8 p.m. local time to check in and pick up your order on your scheduled pickup day. (They store perishables in coolers, so nothing spoils.) If it’s later than 8 p.m. on your pickup day, you’ll need to reschedule or cancel.

Either way, the store will automatically cancel your order the next day if you fail to pick up your items. And once your order gets canceled, it will release the authorization hold on your payment method, so you won’t get charged.
