Overstock Return Policy Overview

You have 30 days to start an Overstock return.

You have 30 days from the day the item was delivered to initiate your return, per the fine print of the Overstock return policy. They must receive your returned items at their facility within 45 days of when your item was first delivered. Once that window passes, you can’t get a refund.

Items must be in new (or unused) condition to receive a refund.

In order to get a refund for an item you bought on Overstock, it must be returned as good as new. The item cannot be used or have any signs of damage, and it must have all of the original product inserts attached.

This means that if a piece of furniture you bought has inserts inside of it to keep its shape, these inserts must still be there when you return it. Essentially, the item must be in its original sellable condition for you to get your money back.

Shipping items back to Overstock will cost you.

Unfortunately, if you ship something back to Overstock for any reason other than in the case of a defective product, you’ll be on the hook for the return shipping fee. This means you’ll have to pay to ship something back if you decide you don’t like it, it doesn’t fit in your house, or if you simply changed your mind. Even if you ordered the item by mistake, you’ll have to pay to ship it back.

The only things you can ship back for free are defective items. Just note that if you claim an item is defective, Overstock will inspect the item and then decide if it’s deemed worthy of a return. If it is, they will refund the cost of the merchandise and shipping charges.

The bottom line: only buy something from Overstock if you really like it and plan on keeping it. If you don’t, you’ll have to pay for shipping, and this can get really pricey — especially if you’re sending back furniture.

How to Return Overstock Items

Return Overstock items by mail.

If you need to return something to Overstock, there’s an easy and quick process. Just make sure you’re returning your item within 30 days of receiving it.

Here’s how to process your Overstock return by mail:

  1. Sign in to your Overstock account.
  2. Select “Return Item.”
  3. Choose the item(s) you want to return.
  4. Provide your return information, including the reason for your return.
  5. Select “Submit Return.”
  6. Click “Get Label” and select your return label delivery.
  7. You’ll receive a link with three options to receive your return shipping label: Get Mobile Code (no printing required), Print Label, or Email Link.
  8. Pack up your item (it can be in original packaging) and drop it off at the post office.

The return shipping fee depends on the item’s price and size.

The major downside of returning things to Overstock is that you have to pay for returns. The return shipping fee depends on the item’s size and price, so be sure to keep this in mind when you’re ordering something. So say you choose to order something big and heavy like a couch and later want to return it. This could cost you hundreds of dollars in shipping fees if you’re not happy with it.

The only time you will get reimbursed for shipping an item back to Overstock is if the item is defective. If it is, then Overstock will refund you for the item as well as the shipping costs.

Returning furniture, rugs, electronics, and defective items is all the same process.

No matter what you’re returning — a new rug, a large piece of living room furniture, a computer, or a defective item — it’s all the same process. You will have to go online, sign into your account, and pick the item you want to return and why. From there, you’ll get your label and have to pack up your items. You will also have to pay for shipping when you drop it off at the post office.

To return oversized items, they must be new and unopened.

If you are returning an oversized item like a 50-inch TV or a large appliance (like a refrigerator or washing machine), it must be new and unopened if you want to get a full refund. This means that if you opened the item, you might not get your money back.

However, if the oversized item arrives damaged, take photos of the damage and contact Overstock Customer Care immediately at 1-800-843-2446. You must have the serial number and model number of the item when you call.

Another important note about oversized items: they reserve the right to deduct the return shipping fee (which can range from $100 to $695 or more, depending on the size and weight of the item) from your refund if the item appears to have been used. For this reason, be sure to keep all original packaging, including inserts and protective padding.

Overstock Return Policy Exceptions

You can never return final sale items, ink cartridges, Club O memberships, or gift cards.

As with most return policies, anything marked “Final Sale” or “As Is” can’t get returned for a full refund at Overstock. You also can’t return ink cartridges, Club O memberships, or Overstock gift cards.

Mattresses, bed toppers, pillows, and items sold in bulk can’t be returned once you open the wrapping.

Buyer beware if you’re thinking about ordering a mattress, mattress topper, pillow, or an item sold in bulk on Overstock. Once those items are opened, you can’t return them and get your money back. You can only return a mattress if it is damaged or defective.

To avoid getting stuck with a mattress topper, pillow, or items sold in bulk, be sure to check out the reviews before buying.

Read product descriptions carefully on Overstock.

There’s nothing worse than buying something that you find out later can’t be returned. Always read product descriptions carefully on Overstock, as they’ll disclose information about if an item can or can’t get returned (scroll down past the Reviews to see the Returns information for any product).

Overstock Return Policy Refunds

If you return something to Overstock, you should receive your refund within four weeks of the date you ship your package back to the warehouse. After Overstock inspects your item and accepts your return, you’ll receive an email with the details of the refund.

You have three ways to get a refund.

When you return something to Overstock, you can choose whether to get a refund issued back to your original form of payment, as in-store credit, or issued to your Club O rewards account.

If you choose in-store credit, it will never expire, and you can use it to purchase anything.

If you have a Club O membership, you can get your return back in the form of Club O rewards. These rewards are different from in-store credit since you can control when and how to spend the rewards. Plus, credits issued as Club O rewards are typically available immediately. (If you are a Club O member, you can check your rewards summary by logging into your account and checking “Rewards Summary” under “Club O.”)

Overstock will keep you up to date with the status of your return.

If you’re wondering when your Overstock refund will show up, you can check the status via email. Overstock will let you know when they have received your return and authorized the refund.

It doesn’t happen often, but if you receive a damaged item from Overstock, be sure to take a picture of it and reach out to their customer service ASAP.
