BJ’s Wholesale Club can save you money on everything from groceries to travel deals, but did you know they can help you save on car maintenance, too? BJ’s Tire Center is actually one of the cheapest places to buy tires, and you can have BJ’s tires installed or repaired while you shop.

You do have to be a BJ’s member in order to buy their tires or use any of BJ’s Tire Center services. BJ’s membership only costs $55 a year though, and with so many freebies included with your BJ’s tire purchase, the savings can more than pay for your membership.

1. You can buy BJ’s tires online or at a warehouse, but they have better selection online.

As long as you have an active BJ’s membership, there are two ways to buy BJ’s tires. You can either order your tires online or pick them out at a BJ’s location.

If you order online, you can have the tires shipped to your preferred location (and shipping is free!) or choose to have them installed at a BJ’s Tire Center. When you place your online order, they give you the option to set up an appointment time so you know exactly when to show up.

2. Use BJ’s website to easily compare tires based on your car’s make, model, and year.

Whether you buy online or in store, you’ll have dozens of tires to choose from. BJ’s has a pretty good selection of tires, so if you’re picky about brands, you have plenty of options.

Here are the brands that BJ’s lists on their website, but each warehouse location may have different options in stock:

You just need to enter your car’s year, make, and model into the search feature and select your preferred BJ’s Tire Center location. You’ll see all of the options available for your specific vehicle, and you can compare pricing and features.

Another perk of comparing pricing this way is that you see what the installation cost is up front. And a lot of BJ’s tires come with free installation. You’ll pay for the tires and the installation cost (if there is one) when you check out online, so you don’t have to pay for installation separately when you go to the Tire Center later.

 

3. Tire installation costs around $20 per tire at BJ’s — and you’ll get lots of freebies, too.

BJ’s tire installation costs around $20 per tire — so plan to spend $80 per vehicle if you’re replacing all four tires at once.

According to TireBuyer.com, the average cost of tire installation can range from $15 to $45 per tire. So BJ’s services are definitely on the low end of the price range. And while $20 per tire is already a good price, all BJ’s tire installations also come with lifetime services.

Here’s what’s included with every BJ’s tire purchase:

• Free tire rotation (usually $24 – $50 per vehicle)
• Free wheel rebalancing (usually $15 – $75 per vehicle)
• Free flat tire repair (usually $10 – $20 per tire)
• Free inflation checks (typically free)

TIP: It’s important to remember that BJ’s will not install tires you purchase from another retailer. So you can only get the low (or free) installation price by purchasing their tires.

 

 

4. All BJ’s tires come with a lifetime warranty.

In addition to all the other savings that come with purchasing tires from BJ’s, you’ll also get a free lifetime warranty.

They call it their “Road Hazard Limited Warranty,” and it’s included with tires purchased for noncommercial vehicles with a wheel diameter no larger than 24″. The warranty lasts for the lifetime of the tire, which they specify as one of these events (whichever one comes first):

• The tire has been driven on for 36 months.
• The tire has been driven for more than 36,000 miles.
• The tread depth is worn below 2/32″

If anything happens to your tire before one of those three things happens, BJ’s will either repair it or replace it for free. This means you’re covered for punctures, cuts, breaks, and any other general damage that can occur while driving.

 

5. Walmart tires may be cheaper, but BJ’s has a better warranty.

With so many tire-buying options out there, it can be hard to figure out what’s really the best deal. Since vehicles, commute times, and driving habits can differ greatly, the best deal for YOU might not actually be from the store with the lowest sticker price. Also consider how much you usually spend on maintenance and how often you need your tires replaced.

Here’s how the competitors compare:

 

Walmart

Pros: On average, Walmart Auto Center has the cheapest tires just based on the sticker price.

Cons: You’ll have to add on the warranty coverage for $10 per tire ($40 per vehicle) to match what BJ’s offers.

 

Costco

Pros: The price of Costco’s tires is pretty comparable to BJ’s prices (most tires are within $5 for the exact same tire), but Costco has a slightly better warranty. Costco offers a 5-year warranty, which will last longer than what BJ’s considers a “lifetime” of the tire.

Cons: Costco only carries four tire brands, so your selection is more limited.

 

Sam’s Club

Pros: Sam’s Club also has comparable pricing to Costco and BJ’s and offers a 4-year warranty.

Cons: Limited selection of tire brands.

TIP: Also consider your location when buying tires. For example, Costco may save you a few dollars, but if BJ’s has a Tire Center significantly closer to you, the cost of gas may outweigh the money you’d save.

 

6. Save more when you wait for a new BJ’s tire deal.

If you don’t need to replace your tires immediately, we recommend identifying the tires you want (or narrowing down your wish list to a few options) and waiting for a deal.
