What is the Amazon employee discount?

Like other retailers, Amazon rewards employees with a staff discount. Amazon employees receive a 10% discount on items sold directly by Amazon.com. Keep in mind, the discount will not apply if the item is fulfilled by a third party. When you shop for an item, look for the seller’s name to see if you will be eligible for a discount. If Amazon.com is not listed as the seller, then you cannot use the discount.

Something else to keep in mind is that this discount will only apply to the first $1,000 worth of merchandise, so the maximum amount you can save is $100 per year. Plus, the $1,000 limit will reset on your employment anniversary. Speaking for ourselves, we would run through that $1,000 limit pretty quickly considering how often the Amazon truck is at our house.

How do you find your employee number to use your employee discount at Amazon?

To use your discount, you will have to enter your employee number at checkout. Find this number by logging onto your Amazon A to Z account and clicking on the profile tab. You should see the employee number below your official staff picture.

An employee’s Amazon A to Z account will also show how much they have left on their $1,000 discount limit.

Are there rules or guidelines around the Amazon employee discount?

Only employees who have worked for Amazon for 30 days or more are eligible for the discount. So don’t expect to order a bunch of merchandise on your first day and get the 10% off.

Employees can still use the discount during Amazon Prime Day, the website’s special semiannual sale. This will definitely help that $1,000 limit go further.

Other Amazon Employee Benefits

Beyond the employee discount, Amazon employees qualify for a number of different perks and benefits.

Amazon Extras

Amazon Extras is a special discount program where employees can save money on cell phone plans, rental cars, vacations, and more. Some employees report getting discounts to use for pet insurance. Contact your HR representative for more information on the Amazon Extras program.

401(k)

For employees who work at least 20 hours a week, Amazon will match 50% of their 401(k) contributions, up to 2% of their salary. For example, if you contribute 2% of your salary, Amazon will match an additional 1%.

Maternity Leave

The company offers up to 20 weeks of paid maternity leave for birthing parents and six weeks of paid parental leave for adoptive or non-birthing parents. This is available for employees who work a minimum of 30 hours a week and have worked at Amazon for at least one year.

Amazon’s Ramp Back program allows parents a gradual return to work instead of resuming full-time status right away.

They are partners with Progeny to offer infertility coverage for families. They also cover up to $5,000 in expenses for a single-child adoption or up to $10,000 for a sibling-group adoption. The child or children must be 18 or younger to qualify.

Health Care

Amazon employees receive health insurance with relatively low deductibles and high coinsurance percentages. Some of their coverage options include access to a Health Savings Plan where Amazon will contribute funds that you can use to cover medical expenses.

They also offer both vision and dental coverage. Additionally, Amazon employees receive three free counseling sessions per year, either virtual or in person.

Restricted Stock Units

Amazon employees working at least 30 hours a week may receive Restricted Stock Units (RSU). RSUs are shares of Amazon stock that employees can sell once they are fully vested. Contact your HR representative to find your vesting schedule.

Insurance

Amazon provides employees with free life insurance policies worth twice their annual salary, as well as free accidental death and dismemberment coverage. Workers can purchase additional insurance for themselves and their children.

Employees receive free short-term and long-term disability insurance, along with access to special deals on homeowners, renters, auto, and pet insurance.

Education

After 90 days of employment, hourly employees can receive educational benefits from Amazon. Their Career Choice program will cover tuition costs for a GED, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree.

This has international reach because employees can choose from multiple schools located in 14 countries. There is no limit on how many years an employee can take advantage of this benefit.
