Dole Whip is a frozen treat that has become synonymous with Disney parks around the world. In a nutshell, it’s a non-dairy soft serve made from pineapple juice. It has a creamy consistency and is the perfect treat after standing in line at the park all day. The original Dole Whip recipe started at Disneyland in the 1980s and eventually spread to other Disney parks, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Dole Whip, along with just about everything else from eggs to orange juice, received a hefty price tag adjustment this past year. Skyrocketing from $4.99 to $5.99 in early 2022 and to $6.49 by the end of 2022, it had customers’ heads spinning. But we’ve got an easy copycat Dole Whip recipe that you can make at home. Now keep in mind this take on the dessert is not dairy-free, as it does contain vanilla ice cream. But it’s kid-friendly, and this homemade version costs about a quarter of the price of the Disney park treat. Check out how we make it below!

Scoop the ice cream into a blender.
Add two heaping scoops of your favorite vanilla ice cream to a blender. To make this treat dairy-free, you could use dairy-free ice cream, coconut cream, or full-fat coconut milk. If you use coconut cream or milk, you may need to add a little extra pineapple or even some ice for the right consistency!
Add the pineapple chunks.
Put the partially thawed pineapple chunks into the blender along with the vanilla ice cream. You can do this with fully frozen pineapple, but the end result won’t be as smooth. We recommend thawing about halfway for a creamier consistency.
Add the pineapple juice.
The pineapple juice adds to the creaminess and also offers a punch of pineapple flavor. You only need to add 1/2 cup of juice. Use the rest for marinades or to make pineapple floats (more on that below!).
Optional: Add salt to cut the acidity and enhance the flavor.
This might seem counterintuitive for a sweet dessert, but a pinch of salt helps enhance the flavor. Salt actually does wonders for sweet and acidic recipes, and we highly recommend not skipping this step. Don’t go overboard, but add about 1/8 teaspoon to your blender before blending everything up.
Blend everything until it’s smooth and creamy.
Pulse all of the ingredients until they start to combine, about three or four times. Then crank that blender up to high until it’s all mixed and smooth. You’ll know it’s ready when all of the colors mix together with no darker or lighter color variations in the blender cup.
You can eat it now or freeze it for two hours.
Unlike having to wait for cakes or cookies to cool, this is a treat you can eat immediately if you want! It’ll have a rich and thick smoothie-like texture.
Freeze it for a thicker consistency.
You can also pop it in the freeze for about two hours to let it set up further. This will give it a firmer ice cream-like consistency closer to the Dole whip recipe you get at Disney. If you’d like, use some of that leftover pineapple juice to create pineapple juice floats.
Enjoy this Dole Whip recipe in the peace and quiet you’d never get at Disney.
The beauty of this recipe is that you can enjoy it in the quiet of your home without waiting in line and for a fraction of the cost you’d spend at a Disney park. You can even make extra and keep it in the freezer for whenever the craving strikes.
