Yeah, we get it, you’ve been going to your neighborhood drug store or big chain pharmacy for years now, and it’s a hassle to switch. But what if we told you it’s totally not? And that Walmart Pharmacy could save you money, eliminate hassle, and even become a convenient spot for a yearly flu shot?
If you’re already a Walmart devotee, it’s likely that Walmart Pharmacy will appeal to you for their easy prescription transfers, refills, and super affordable generic drugs.

1. You can transfer your existing prescriptions to Walmart Pharmacy in a few clicks.
On the Walmart Pharmacy website, just fill out your personal information, pharmacy info, and your prescription details. Or you can choose to transfer all your current prescriptions.
If you want to transfer prescriptions between two Walmart pharmacies, all you need to do is change the pickup location when you order a refill.
Once everything is moved over, ordering refills online is just as easy.

2. Some drugs are actually cheaper at Walmart Pharmacy than at other major drug chains.
Walmart Pharmacy changed the game back in 2006 when they announced they would start offering $4 generic drugs for some of the most popular medications. These popular drugs included the likes of metformin (for diabetes), atenolol (for high blood pressure), and others. For the included drugs, $4 gets you a 30-day supply, while a 90-day supply costs $10 (a savings of 17%).
We did some digging for ourselves and found that for many prescriptions, Walmart comes out cheaper than CVS, Costco, and others.
For people without insurance, this low pricing is a blessing, and even for people with insurance, the $4 price often comes out cheaper than the co-payment would be. To see which drugs are only $4, take a look at Walmart Pharmacy’s list of prices.

3. There are thousands of Walmart Pharmacy locations to choose from.
All Walmart retail stores have a pharmacy department, so you have your choice of 5,100 Walmart Pharmacy locations across the country. Go on the website to find the nearest location to your home.
4. Call the Walmart Pharmacy insurance team for help with pricing questions.
If you want to get some information about drug costs that you can’t find online, call Walmart Pharmacy’s insurance team at 877-453-4566.
They can also help you determine if you qualify for any Patient Assistance Program discounts and ensure that you pay the lowest price possible.
5. Use Walmart Pharmacy for more than just cheap prescriptions.
There are a few reasons why Drug Store News named Walmart the Pharmacy Innovator of the Year in 2021, namely their commitment to community health, their role in helping vaccinate people for COVID-19, and their use of technology.
Beyond those accolades, their pharmacy also has convenient services like the Walmart Home Delivery Pharmacy program, which is available to everyone. If you’re taking medication for chronic conditions or you typically get 90-day supplies, using the service can save you time and money. And if you choose standard delivery, it’s free! Otherwise, it’s $8 for 2-day delivery and $15 for overnight.
Another nice perk is Walmart’s quarterly Wellness Days. During these events, you can get on-the-spot screenings for cholesterol, A1C, and high blood pressure, plus catch up with your vaccines. They post the schedule for upcoming Wellness Days on their website.
6. Stay up to date on vaccines and immunizations at Walmart.
Walmart Pharmacy also helps get shots in arms. That includes yearly flu shots, COVID vaccines and boosters, and the pneumonia shot. You can also get other common immunizations there like Dtap, shingles, hepatitis A and B, HPV, meningitis, chicken pox, measles, mumps, and rubella. (Offerings may vary by state, so keep that in mind.)
You can schedule an appointment online, or in some cases, you can just stop by the pharmacy on your next trek to Walmart, as they can sometimes accommodate walk-ins.

7. Power up your savings if you’re a Walmart+ customer.
As an added value for paying for a Walmart+ subscription, you also get Walmart+ Rx for less, which provides access to certain medications for free. Plus you’ll get access to thousands of additional prescription medications discounted up to 85% off.
Just note that this may not be available in all states and can’t be combined with insurance, so if it’s something you’re interested in, be sure to check in with your local Walmart.
8. There’s a separate app for Walmart Pharmacy.
Managing your prescription refills or even transferring them over to the pharmacy at Walmart is simple using the Walmart Wellness app (iOS / Android).
To get started, you’ll just have to verify your identity to access the pharmacy records. Once you’re set up, you can review your prescription history, request refills, and more.
