Truly “lost” luggage is rare, and even though less than .03% of unclaimed baggage fits this category, one store has made a business out of getting their hands on it and turning a profit through resale. Believe it or not, the store — called Unclaimed Baggage — has been bringing savings as steep as 80% to customers for 50 years.
In addition to finding great deals when you shop at Unclaimed Baggage, you can also find discounts on an assortment of designer clothes, watches, and handbags. I’m talking half-off or more.
If you’re looking for a fresh way to be a professional thrifter, or you’re excited about supporting a business that’s up to its elbows in promoting environmental sustainability, you’re gonna want to listen up.

If you’ve never shopped Unclaimed Baggage here’s the scoop…
What is the Unclaimed Baggage store?
Unclaimed Baggage is a company that has been repurposing and reselling lost checked luggage items for 50 years. They started out in 1970 with just a physical location in Alabama. But, as of 2020, they have an online store, too. Unclaimed Baggage receives lost baggage from all domestic airlines and sorts through it. Then they determine what’s usable and send it off to be laundered (or wiped and refurbished for electronics).
Unclaimed Baggage sells anything you’d expect to find in checked luggage.
Anything that you might find in checked luggage, you’ll find here. Clothing, electronics, and cameras are most common. But sometimes they get their hands on random items people pack as souvenirs, too.
You’ll notice the biggest savings are for clothing (up to 80% off), while electronics hover more around the 20% – 35% off mark.
They receive new inventory every day, so you’ll always find something new.
Unclaimed Baggage brings in over 7,000 new items every single day, so there’s not a single best day to shop the physical store based on the arrival of inventory. However, crowds are smaller during the week, just like most retail stores. Weekends see more foot traffic.
For the online store, shop on Sundays and Thursdays. This is when new items are placed for sale.
You can check different categories online, like “New With Tags.”
You really can find all sorts of goodies on their website. You’ll see categories like New With Tags, New Luxe Items (which are designer brands), electronics, and more. At the time of this writing, here’s an example of what’s available in these categories.

Spyder navy solid puffer jacket (size 8) for $12.75 ($149 est. retail value)
Cynthia Rowley black solid mini dress (size 6) for $12.72 ($525 est. retail value )

Unclaimed Baggage sells Apple products for up to 80% off, but you gotta be fast.
Apple laptops do exist at Unclaimed Baggage, but they always sell out immediately. I recommend planning to shop on the morning of the two days of the week when new inventory drops: Sunday and Thursday. Here are examples of Apple products that are sold out, but will give you an idea of savings:
2017 MacBook Air 13.3″ for $178.99 ($999 est. retail value)
2020 MacBook Air 13.3″ for $588.99 ($999 est. retail value)

Unclaimed Baggage donates what it can’t sell to charities.
Much of what’s lost in unclaimed checked luggage isn’t sellable, because either it’s too damaged or worn out. Unclaimed Baggage donates those items to charities.
Nope, Unclaimed Baggage doesn’t pay airlines for passengers’ lost bags.
Airlines work hard to reunite baggage with passengers, which is why there are so few truly “lost” bags. Generally, airlines aren’t interested in dealing with lost items, so they donate these to Unclaimed Baggage to deal with.
Shipping is free when you spend $99+ on an order.
That’s right, shipping is free when you spend at least $99. Items take about 3 – 8 days to get to your door. Otherwise, shipping is a whopping $12. For this reason, I recommend shopping in larger batches instead of buying one thing at a time.
You have 21 days to return an online purchase, and 14 days if you bought it in-store.
Returns vary depending on whether you shopped in store or online, so I’ll break down both.
In-store return policy: You have 14 days to return items you bought in the Unclaimed Baggage physical store. However, the tags must be attached and you’ll only get store credit, no cash or same tender returns.
Online return policy: You have 21 days to return items you bought online. Items must have tags attached, be unworn, undamaged, and in its original package. Shipping fees are not refundable, and you’ll pay for return shipping, too.
