Where to Find Cheap Candles: Tips and Deals to Save Year-Round

Candles are one of the best parts of this season, but they can be so stinkin’ expensive. Seriously, why do some brands ask us to pay as much as $30 for a single candle?

Luckily, I have a few tricks up my sleeves to save on candles. You just have to know when to buy and which sales and coupons to watch for.

Plus, read about our favorite Candle Day sales from our favorite stores like Bath & Body Works and Kroger (this passed, but we’ve got some good tips for next year!).

The Bath & Body Works’ Semi-Annual sale is a great opportunity to save on candles.

The store’s Semi-Annual sale happens in June and again the day after Christmas. In recent sales, we found single-wick candles for as low as $12, and three-wick candles for as low as $10.95. You could usually find additional offers in the form of a coupon like “10 off orders of $40 or more.”

To get three-wick candles for around $7.50 each, buy enough to reach the minimum spend threshold in order to use the coupon and then stack it with a sale.

Overall, you want to aim to spend less than $10 each on Bath & Body Works candles.

 

Buy Yankee Candles for up to half off on Amazon.

Check out the Yankee Candle Store on Amazon. Certain scents are listed at up to 50%.

When you shop the actual Yankee Candle store — either online or in person — the name of the game is Buy One, Get One (BOGO) Free deals.

Look for BOGO Free and B1G2 Free deals on large candles during the store’s semi-annual sales in December and June.

Aim to get large jar candles for under $10 each (regularly $29.50 each) when you buy enough to get a free one. For example, if you have to buy two to get a free one, definitely do it!

Also, watch for promos like “6 Large Candles for $60.”

 

Fine the best clearance candle sales after holidays like Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

In general, stores mark down their candles after the winter holidays and Mother’s Day. If you can find candles that don’t look overly holiday-themed, plan on stocking up to use them year-round.

At Target, for example, we found candles marked down to $0.89-$5.50 after a holiday.

 

Save on candles with Bath & Body Works’ original Candle Day sale in early December.

The Bath & Body Works Candle Sale happens every year, and it ran from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3. You could shop 14.5oz three-wick candles for just $9.95 each (reg. $26.95 each). This price drop beat the store’s 2023 Black Friday price of $12.95 per three-wick candle.

Plus, for the first time ever, the store extended the sale one full day early to Bath & Body Works’ Rewards Members. They could access the sale in-store and online.

Kroger’s Candle Day sale also happens in early December. It gets you an even better deal at $6 per candle.

Every year, Kroger hosts their own Candle Day sale on the first Saturday of December. That means this year, shoppers took advantage of $6 candles (reg. $19.99) all day on Dec. 2. This discount applied to various brands like Yankee Candle, Candle-Lite, and Tuscany.

Keep in mind that you need your Kroger Plus Shopper’s Card or phone number to get the sale price at checkout.

GooseCreek also holds a special Candle Day sale the first Saturday of December of every year.

Similarly to the Bath & Body Works’ sale in 2023, you could find 14.5oz, three-wick candles for $9.95 each (reg. $25.50). Even select Little Debbie candles were on sale for $13.99 each. But deals ended at the end of the day on Dec. 2.

Use a 20%-off coupon on Yankee at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Bed Bath & Beyond usually marks their Yankee Candles down 30-50% after a holiday or after every season. There’s always a scent on clearance.

Sign up for emails and get a 20%-off coupon to use on a clearance candle, and you can save up to 70% on Yankee.

Stack “$10 off $30” coupons with a Bath & Body Works sale the rest of the year.

You can get close to semi-annual sale prices on Bath & Body Works candles during the rest of the year when you stack a coupon like “$10 off $30” with a sale or promotion.

Common examples are Buy 2, Get 2 Free promotions and general markdowns — typically in the form of a sale price (around $12.25 for three-wick candles).

When you combine these with a coupon like $10 off $30, you can get candles for $9-$10 each.

 

Get free Yankee Candles when you use your Kohl’s Cash to buy them.

Plan to shop Kohl’s during a Kohl’s Cash earning period and spend your Kohl’s Cash on Yankee Candles.

To get the best value when you spend money at Kohl’s during a Kohl’s Cash earning period, use up to four coupons or promo codes online and buy clearance items — consider stocking up on seasonal items for next year.

Large Yankee Candles at Kohl’s are regularly around $20, which means even if you don’t have Kohl’s Cash, it’s cheaper to buy them full price at Kohl’s than to buy them full price at the Yankee Store ($29.50 each).

 

Buy Hearth & Hand candles by Magnolia at Target.

You stand to save almost $1/oz. when you buy Magnolia candles at Target instead of directly from Chip and Joanna Gaines’ website, Magnolia Market.

Plus, Target’s version hits the clearance end-caps at the end of the season, making them an even sweeter deal.

Magnolia’s “made for Target” line is called Hearth & Hand.

Buy pillar candles at Amazon and tea lights at Walmart.

Walmart is unbeatable when it comes to tea lights but Amazon wins with the pillar candles.

Tea light candles 50 ct. unscented

• Walmart: $0.04/ea.
• Amazon: $0.22/ea.

TIP: Dollar stores are a good place to look as well, but pay attention to price per pillar or tea light!

 

 

Buy candles at Target when there’s a Circle offer in the Target app.

About once per season we see Target Circle offers for a certain percentage off candles.

It could be a “10% off candles” Cartwheel offer or a “15% off Decorative Home Accessories” offer.

For deepest savings, buy a clearance candle, use the Cartwheel offer, and pay with your RedCard to score an extra 5% savings.

You can get brands like Yankee, Chesapeake Bay or more generic candles for dirt cheap.

 

Or buy candles at Michaels using your 20%-40% off coupon.

Don’t forget about Michaels! You can find clearance sales at the end of summer, with discounts of up to 70%.

Plus, thanks to the occasional “40% off one regular priced item” coupon, or the more common “20% of one item coupon” you can usually create your own sale.

Stack manufacturer coupons with a drugstore sale to buy Glade candles.

Drugstores like Walgreens or CVS often have sales on Glade candles. When you use a manufacturer coupon, you can often get them for under $2, which is a stock-up price!

Look for coupons like $0.50/1 Glade candles from Glade.com or $1/2 Glade products from Coupons.com.

Buy LED tealight candles from Amazon (instead of Walmart or Target).

The savings on LED tealights when you buy them from Amazon speaks for itself — over $0.50 per candle!

Even Walmart can’t beat Amazon’s price.

Shop ALDI’s Huntington Home candles if you can’t find a candle deal.

Reviewers swear ALDI’s candles smell exactly like expensive Jo Malone candles. But the price tag is $5 on sale (or reg. $7) instead of Jo Malone’s $87 price tag.

If you’re lucky enough to live by an ALDI and you just can’t stomach paying full price on a Yankee or a Bath & Body Works candle but you need a good, high-quality candle, this is the route for you
