We have a lot to say about why Target Pickup is one of our favorite ways to do a Target run — but the bullseye just gave us some incredible new reasons. Not only can you pick from more than 250,000 different products to be placed right in your trunk, but did you know that there are 240 Target locations across the U.S. that offer Target Pickup with Starbucks? That means you can pickup all your Target faves while also getting your Starbies drink — all via the Target app while you sit comfortably in your car.

If your Target location isn’t one of the select few that offers Starbucks curbside pickup yet, don’t worry, because Target has big plans for 2023, including Target drive up returns and curbside Starbucks pickup orders. Here’s everything you need to know about Target Pickup accommodating Starbucks orders, where it’s currently been rolled out, and more.

Target Pickup with Starbucks will be at all 1,700 Target locations by October.

Listen, not even my local Starbucks will run a coffee out to my car. But since early November 2022, Starbucks with Drive Up service launched at all stores in 14 states (California, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin). Select stores in California, Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia also offer Starbucks Drive Up too.

If you’ve been bummed that your Target location hasn’t rolled this out yet, don’t worry: A Target Corporation press release from Aug. 9, 2023, confirms that Starbucks with Drive Up service will be available at all 1,700 stores by October 2023. After all, they note that when surveying guests, “placing a Drive Up order for Starbucks was a top request.” Is anyone surprised? No, not at all.

How to order Starbucks with Target Pickup

If your Target store is participating, here’s how you can order Starbucks when picking up your Target order:

  • Place a Drive Up order via the Target app. When you get the alert that your order is ready for pickup, tap “on my way.”
  • Once you’re en route, you’ll have the option to place an order from the Starbucks menu.
  • Park in a Drive Up parking spot and tap “I’m Here” in the app.
  • A Target associate will bring out your Target and Starbucks order right to your car.

And don’t forget: You can take advantage of all the Target Circle deals on Starbucks drinks when they happen, and yes, from your car as well.

Soon you’ll make your Target returns right from the parking lot.

Later this year, Target shoppers will be able to return items right from the Drive Up area. It’s unclear right now whether you’ll have to pair the returns with a Pickup order, but no matter what, you won’t need to schedule an appointment to use this service, as you can select everything you need via the Target app. And yes — you’ll be able to order Starbucks for Target drive up returns, too.

Brush up on your knowledge of Target return policy, and then look forward to the most wonderfully antisocial returns process ever.

Look out for a bigger selection of Pickup substitution items, too.

Sometimes Target doesn’t have exactly the item you order. When that happens, you have the choice to let them substitute the original item for a “backup item.”

In addition to adding Starbucks and returns to Pickup, Target is rolling out a larger number of backup items to their ordering system.

Target has claimed 98% success rate on their substitutions, but it looks like they’re trying to boost that.

Other new innovations coming to Target Pickup include Adult Beverage Pickup, as well as “Shopping Partner,” which will allow guests to send someone else to pick up their order. It’s safe to say that Target is truly giving everything that guests need — right there in the drive up lane.
