The Basics of the Target Price Match Policy
Target’s price match policy is straightforward and flexible. But as of August 2024, you can only match prices with Amazon or Walmart, and it has to be for the same exact product (identical in brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number) As for where you actually ask for the price match, you can do that at Target in-store or online.
Here are the key things to know about price matching at Target:
Price Matching In-Store
If you’re shopping in-store, all you need to do is show proof of the lower price to the cashier at checkout. They’ll only accept proof of a lower price from Walmart or Amazon. While standing in line, I always scan the barcode of the item in either app, click on the links if the products are cheaper, and show the cashier my phone. They adjust the price immediately. No manager, no forms, no nothing.
PRICE MATCHING TIP: If I’m shopping in the store, I also scan anything I want to buy using the Target app to see if the item is cheaper at Target.com. If it’s cheaper online at Target.com, I show the cashier the lower price and get it price matched.
Price Matching Online
If you’re shopping online at Target.com and see a better price for the same exact item on either Walmart.com or Amazon.com, call 1 (800) 591-3869 or use the Target customer service chat. They’ll have you place the order and they’ll make sure you get the difference refunded to you.
Stores Target Will Price Match (And What You Need to Know)
As of August 2024, Target narrowed their price match policy to just two retailers: Amazon and Walmart. But they will also price match with Target.com if you find a lower price on the site while shopping in-store. Just make sure that the item is sold and shipped by Target, not a third-party Target Plus Partner.
Amazon: Target matches prices on items sold and fulfilled by Amazon, but not items from third-party sellers.
Walmart: Target only matches prices on items that are identical and sold directly by Walmart.
Keep in mind that Target stores in Alaska and Hawaii are excluded from price matching online competitors.
Watch Out for These Target Price Match Exclusions
There are a decent number of exclusions listed by Target in their fine print for price matching. Here are the ones that you definitely want to keep in mind:
Target-Specific Offers: You can't combine a lower price with Target Circle Bonuses, Target GiftCard offers, Registry completion coupons, or Target coupons. Manufacturer coupons are okay after a price match, but only for in-store purchases.
Special Discounts & Sales: Excluded items include clearance, closeout, liquidation, damaged, used, open-box, refurbished, pre-owned, or rent-to-own items. Also excluded are discounts on total store/site purchases, minimum purchase deals, non-branded items, and prices requiring a login.
Pricing Errors & Special Promotions: Typo errors, competitor coupon offers, loyalty cards, promo codes, and lightning sales (like Amazon Prime deals) don’t qualify.
Third-Party Sellers & Special Categories: “Marketplace” prices from third-party sellers, items sold by a Target Plus Partner on Target.com or apps, and certain categories like alcohol (depending on state laws), optical products, clinic/pharmacy purchases, and contract mobile phone devices/plans are all excluded.

Maximizing your savings at Target is easy if you know the rules. Here’s how to get the best prices with their policy:
Combine Discounts: Use your Target Circle Card to save an extra 5% after price matching.
Know the Rules: Coupons from manufacturers can be used after a price match, but not Target Circle offers.
Maximize Matches: There’s no limit on how many price matches you can claim in a day.
14-Day Price Adjustment: Target has a Price Match Guarantee. If you find a lower price within 14 days of your purchase, Target will adjust your price to match it, ensuring you always get the best deal.
Black Friday & Holiday Exclusions: Target doesn't allow price matching during Black Friday or the holiday season, so plan your shopping accordingly.
Grocery Price Matching : Technically, Target does price match groceries. However, be mindful of how the items are priced. For instance, you can’t match green peppers priced per item at Target with those sold by the pound at Walmart.
