Find out where to use your SNAP food benefits.
Plenty of stores, both local and chains, accept SNAP food benefits. Major chains such as Walmart, Target, Safeway, Walgreens, Trader Joe’s, and 7-Eleven all currently accept SNAP payments. The USDA runs an official SNAP retailer locator to help you find a store within 25 miles of you that accepts SNAP benefits. And now, certain stores are accepting SNAP benefits online, too.
Some grocery stores accept SNAP food benefits in stores only.
There are a few grocery stores that only accept SNAP food benefits in the store. Although some of these stores do offer a delivery or curbside pickup option, paying with your SNAP food benefits card isn’t an option. Here are the stores that are in-store SNAP only:
- Trader Joe’s
- Dollar Tree
- Walgreens
- 7-Eleven
- CVS
- Meijer

Coupons can be used with SNAP food benefits.
Coupons can be used when paying with SNAP benefits, with the process generally working the same as any other payment method. While most major stores simply apply their general couponing policy to SNAP purchases, certain stores have individual policies, as you will see below. When choosing your coupons, keep in mind that SNAP benefits can only be used for food-specific items.
Kroger accepts SNAP food benefits for grocery pickup and delivery online.
Kroger accepts SNAP payments for grocery pickup and delivery at their more than 2,700 locations. Pickup is free on orders of $35 or more. And as of October 2023, Kroger now accepts SNAP payments in addition to credit or debit cards for Kroger delivery orders.
Other stores under the Kroger umbrella, such as Fred Meyer and Smith’s, also don’t have restrictions when it comes to using coupons with a SNAP payment.
Walmart shoppers can use SNAP EBT payments for grocery pickup and delivery.
SNAP benefits can be used for Walmart grocery pickup and delivery in 48 states. All states, except for Alaska and Montana, allow you to pay for your delivered groceries with your SNAP card. Using the Walmart Grocery mobile app or website, you simply select your items and choose “EBT Card” as your payment method. Keep in mind that only select items qualify for SNAP payments, meaning you may be responsible for remaining charges.
Target accepts SNAP food benefits in stores and for pickup and delivery.
Like most major stores, Target accepts SNAP payments for groceries. Beginning in April 2022, Target will also accept SNAP for online grocery Drive Up and pickup orders and Shipt delivery orders.
The Target coupon policy applies to orders using SNAP payments, such as only allowing four manufacturer coupons per household, per day.
Amazon SNAP EBT payments are accepted for online orders.
You can currently use SNAP benefits for Amazon groceries in all states except Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Montana.
Simply add your SNAP EBT card for payment to your account (similar to a credit card); shop through Amazon, AmazonFresh, or Amazon Pantry; and enter your PIN at checkout. Just look for items labeled “SNAP EBT Eligible.” SNAP EBT can’t be used on Subscribe & Save recurring charges.
Additionally, once your SNAP EBT card is added as your account’s payment method, you can get free shipping on orders of $35 or more, and you can get 50% off your Amazon Prime membership.

Smith’s allows SNAP EBT payments for grocery pickup.
Smith’s allows SNAP food benefits to be used for grocery pickup payment. The process is simple, as you only need to shop online through the Smith’s website, select a time to pick up your order, and choose “SNAP/EBT” as the payment method. Make sure to bring your SNAP benefits card along with you to present at pickup.
Safeway and Albertsons accept SNAP for grocery delivery orders.
Albertsons and its sub-grocery stores accept SNAP as an online payment method for grocery delivery and pickup. SNAP is accepted in any state where they have online delivery and pickup service. To check out with your SNAP EBT/EBT Cash Card, you’ll enter your card number like a credit card and enter the amount you wish to charge to the SNAP EBT card. If the total amount for SNAP-eligible items is higher than your SNAP balance amount, or to pay for any non-SNAP eligible items, you can use another form of payment to cover the difference.
