The couponing concepts that we’ll talk about during our 2022 Couponing Challenge are meant to introduce you to couponing; use them during the 30-day Challenge and when you’re ready to shop at your local store.
Here are some helpful tips for smart shopping and couponing during COVID.
1. Stay home if you’re sick. Period.
If you’re not feeling 100%, please don’t head in store to coupon. Stay home and get better! There will always be more deals to shop later.
2. Protect yourself while shopping.
There are several ways to prevent getting sick and ways to prevent spreading viruses when you’re in-store shopping. According to the CDC, here’s what you should do:
Wear a mask.
Most stores require shoppers to wear face coverings or shields. Costco even requires those with medical conditions to wear face shields if they want to shop in store. Need a face mask? Here’s how to make a face mask. We’ve got face mask deals too.
Go during hours when fewer people will be in store.
Early morning and late evening are typically the least crowded times to shop in store. Mid-afternoon is typically the most crowded time.
Disinfect your shopping cart.
If your store doesn’t already have cleaning wipes or solution on hand for shoppers, consider bringing your own. Here are 27 Cleaners That Kill Coronavirus and a Lot More That Don’t.
Use hand sanitizer after paying or handing over coupons.
Always use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol before and after entering the store, and after handing over payment and coupons at the register. Hand sanitizer is simple to make if you can’t find any in stock; here are directions for how to make hand sanitizer.
Along with the above preventative measures, the CDC also recommends staying six feet away from others; not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; and only touching what you’re going to buy in store.
3. Unpack your purchases safely at home.
When you get home, and after you unpack your purchases, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. You should also clean countertops regularly with disinfecting solution. See coupons for cleaning supplies if you need more product.
