If you have a decent credit score and you’re diligent in paying off your monthly bill, then it’s about time those skills started paying off a bit more. As in, let’s turn those into free clothes.

I did, and now I’m taking home $85 in free Old Navy clothes when I shop back-to-school or for the holidays.

And for real, download The Krazy Coupon Lady app for more money-saving tips, deals, and coupons. Wanna text? I’ll send you a couple of the hottest deals each day—just shoot me a message at 57299.

1. Open an Old Navy credit card at their back-to-school sale for 25% off your first purchase.

Normally, Old Navy offers 20% off your first purchase with an Old Navy credit card, but they regularly boost that discount to 25 – 30% off just in time for back-to-school shopping in late July. Old Navy runs a holiday promotion as well, for 25% off.

If you apply and get a card online at OldNavy.com, you have to use the coupon toward an online purchase within 30 days. If you apply in store, you have to use the coupon that day while paying with your new card.

I stacked my coupon with an existing sale to get jeans 40% off:

Old Navy rewards cardmembers who shop at all four Gap brands earn 2,000 rewards points (read: $20 in rewards cash). This is a once-per-year deal. I bought cheap items from each store:

  • 1 set of Everyday Non Medical Face Masks Five Pack from Athleta (reg. $30), $3.99 sale price

  • 1 No-Show Liner Sock from Banana Republic, $7.50

  • 1 Scrunchie 3-Pack (reg. $16.95), $7 sale price

Within one day of making these purchases, Old Navy added 2,000 rewards points to my account.

My total across all four stores was $52.24, which earned me 261 rewards points (cardmembers earn 5 points for each dollar spent at any Gap brand store). At this point, I had $22 in rewards cash and earned $10 in Old Navy Super Cash (more on Super Cash later).

3. Pay bills with your Old Navy Visa credit card and earn $10 per month.

Old Navy offers three different cards. Although all three offer the same benefits on Gap brand purchases, only Old Navy’s Visa card will reward you for spending outside of the Gap family stores.

Luckily for me, my credit was good enough to score a Visa card. Immediately after making my first purchase, I set up my Old Navy card to pay my:

  • Streaming subscriptions

  • Internet bill

  • Car insurance

  • Monthly parking pass

  • Gym membership

  • Gas and grocery bills

Those bill payments, which I had already budgeted money for, started earning me a little over 1,000 rewards points each month ($10 in Old Navy cash per month).

PRO TIP: Pay your card off every month online, via mail, or over the phone. That sucker is 25.99% APR! These clothes only stay free as long as we’re not making huge interest payments.

4. Roll points over until you’ve saved about $50.

How do you reach $50 in rewards? Roll your rewards for five or six months. By December, I had earned $50 in rewards cash from my bill paying with the card alone.

Even if you only had the store card, you would still have the $35 in rewards cash from your first purchase. But I still wasn’t done adding to my war chest of rewards cash.

5. Stack Old Navy credit card rewards with Super Cash for free clothes.

Next I gathered up my $10 in Super Cash that I earned on my first Old Navy jeans purchase for back-to-school. Here’s what you need to spend to earn your Super Cash:

6. Earn 1,000 points ($10) when you submit your email and go paperless.

This one’s easy. I signed up to receive promo emails from Old Navy and enrolled in paperless statements for my Old Navy Visa and immediately earned 1000 points, or another $10 in rewards.

7. Drop your rewards at Old Navy’s Cyber Monday sale for $85 in free clothes.

By the time Old Navy’s end-of-year sales rolled around, I had $82 in rewards cash and $10 in Super Cash. And thanks to my cardholder status, I was granted access to Old Navy’s Cyber Monday deals two days earlier than the masses.

The sales never stood a chance.

My haul:

  • 1 Gender-Neutral Oversized Jean Trucker Jacket for Kids (reg. $34.99), $17.49

  • 1 Garment-Dyed Pullover Tunic Hoodie for Girls (reg. $29.99), $14.99

  • 1 Cozy Plush Camo Jogger Leggings for Girls (reg. $26.99), $13.49

  • 1 Built-In-Flex Skinny Jeans for Boys (reg. $24.99), $12.49

  • 1 Skinny Non-Stretch Jeans for Boys (reg. $19.99), $9.99

  • 1 High-Waisted Built-In Tough Button-Fly Rockstar Super Skinny Jeggings for Girls (reg. $34.99), $17.49

Final price: $85.94

At checkout, I used my Super Cash (you’re allowed to use $10 of Super Cash for every $25 you ring up), which brought my remaining total to $75.94. I took care of the rest with my rewards. Boom. I knocked six items off of my holiday shopping list—for free.
