Olaplex is known for a lot of great things, but affordability isn’t one. Let’s face it, $96 for a 33.8-ounce bottle of Olaplex is a bit steep to say the least. That’s $2.84 per ounce … yikes. Good Olaplex dupes are a perfect work-around to this problem. Because yes, beauty is pain, but that doesn’t mean we have to hurt our wallets. And repairing broken hair with quality shampoo shouldn’t leave you with a broken bank.
So for beauties on a budget, we found the best Olaplex dupes (because you know we love comparing name brands vs. generics here). We researched several hair care products from different brands to get the most bang for your buck. Whether you’re trying to repair damage from heat styling tools or just looking for some extra shine, we’ve got the recs.

Best Olaplex Dupes 2022
1. Plex Breakage Defense Set
We love that this hair repair shampoo ($8.29, Sally) gets you the best price on the list at just $1.63 per ounce. It’s part of a 3-step system alongside a bond mender pre-treatment and conditioner. So bonus points for simplicity. And while the 12-ounce bottle is a bit smaller than other options on the list, it should still last a while.
2. #4 Bonding Shampoo
This shampoo by Bondbar ($9.99, Sally) claims that when used as part of a system, it can repair hair after just one use. Also in the line are a pre-shampoo, a conditioner, and a styling cream. But while the price per ounce ends up being $1.24, we don’t love that it only comes in 8-ounce bottles.
3. Plex Step 4 Bond Plex Shampoo
This shampoo ($9.99, Target) boasts a list of powerful hair care ingredients, including vitamin B5 and three different types of plant proteins. It’s part of a 6-step vegan routine. At $1.18 per ounce, it’s a reasonable deal. We also love how accessible the line is since you can pick it up at your local Target.
4. The Kure Bond Repair Shampoo
This cruelty-free, climate-neutral shampoo ($24, Amika) works with any hair type, including 4c curls. With the smaller $24 version, you’re paying about $2.60 per ounce, which is less than what you’re paying with Olaplex. However, if you really want to break it down, the larger size is a better deal because you’re paying about $1.95 per ounce for 33.8 ounces.

5. Fusionplex Shampoo
If you’ve bleached your hair at home before, you’ve probably heard of Wella. Well, this time they’re delving into the world of shampoo with a cleansing product ($25, Ulta). The shampoo claims it uses antioxidants to remove metals from your hair. It also uses micronized lipids and silk amino acids. With all that science, it makes sense why the product is $2.98 per ounce for 8.4 ounces. Still not as pricey as Olaplex, though.
6. Perfect Bonding Restoring Shampoo
While you can’t put a price on healthy hair, this shampoo ($38, Luseta) has a relatively low one. At $0.88 per ounce, this quinoa seed extract shampoo is a steal. Other ingredients include rosemary oil and marula oil. And if you buy it along with the matching conditioner and leave-in cream, you can save 10%.
7. Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo
This shampoo from Redken ($57, Ulta) boasts vegan, clean ingredients. It uses AHA (you know, the stuff in those skincare exfoliants) to balance pH levels after chemical treatments. Just be sure to wear sunscreen on your hair and scalp after use. And at $1.68 per ounce, it’s not a bad deal.
