Last September, Lunchables launched their new Crispy Grilled Cheesies at grocery stores nationwide. The brand's first frozen line comes in two flavors: Original and Pepperoni Pizza (both $4.99) and each package includes two frozen grilled cheese sandwiches. That breaks down to $2.49 per sandwich, making them a simple and cost-effective lunch option, especially when kids are home during the summer months.
Here are all of the reasons why I always keep a healthy supply of Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies in my freezer:
1. Each package includes two grilled cheese sandwiches, with each one costing 62% less than what you’d pay at a fast casual eatery.
Most days, I’m either working from home or shuttling my kids around. That means I hit the drive thru and use food delivery apps a lot more often than I’d like to admit. But with the Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies, my kids can get a hot sandwich in 60 seconds — a much cheaper option than buying them at fast casual eateries.
For example, at Five Guys, one grilled cheese sandwich costs $6.49. That’s $4 more than a Lunchables Cripsy Grilled Cheesie. And if I bought a kids grilled cheese from Panera, I’d pay $6.79. While it includes an apple or a small bag of chips, Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies are the cheaper option by a longshot.
And ordering that same Panera kids grilled cheese for delivery on DoorDash? Forget about it: I’d pay $8.19 for the sandwich – not to mention a $3.99 delivery charge, $3.78 for fees and estimated taxes, and a $2.50 tip, which brings my grand total to $18.46. That means I could get SEVEN Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies for the price of ONE Panera kids grilled cheese sandwich via DoorDash delivery. (And chances are, the sandwich wouldn’t even arrive warm and toasty when it’s delivered.)
2. Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies microwave for just 60 seconds — easy enough for kids to make on their own, and 10x faster than making it yourself.
Another thing I love about this Lunchables line is that my kids can make a hot lunch or filling snack for themselves and it only takes a minute. All they need to do is keep the lid on while they remove the plastic wrapper, place the box on a paper towel, and microwave it for 60 seconds on HIGH. Then, let it cool down for another 60 seconds before eating. Believe it or not, even though it’s made in the microwave, it’s still crispy and cheesy because of its 360CRISP™ crisping technology.
And when I don’t have 15 minutes to spare to make a homemade grilled cheese and handle clean-up after, I can just zap it in the microwave while I grab my purse, phone, and keys. Then, I just bring it in the car with me when I pick up my kid so he’s got something filling to eat between school and soccer practice.
3. They're so convenient, especially during the summer months.
When school’s in session, I only have to worry about being asked “What’s for lunch?” on the weekends. But in the summertime, it’s seven days a week, no matter how busy I am with work, chores, and errands. Now, instead of stopping everything I’m doing and searching through the fridge, my kids can grab a Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesie from the freezer and make it themselves. Plus, there’s no mess for me to clean up after. It’s a quick and tasty option that I even enjoy myself.
I’d love to know how they make that crust so crispy and buttery, but in the meantime, you can find Lunchables Crispy Grilled Cheesies at grocery stores nationwide, including Stop & Shop, The Giant Company, Hannaford, and Giant Food.
