Retailers like Lowe’s offer free Christmas tree delivery starting in mid-November. And thank goodness because I’m tired of vacuuming pine needles out of my front hood and windshield every year.
Lowe’s, Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot are a few of the major retailers offering live Christmas tree delivery in 2023. Most trees will qualify for free delivery right to your door, so there’s no need to pay more just to avoid the self-transport.
Here’s what you need to know about getting your live Christmas tree delivered in 2023, including delivery speeds and free shipping minimums at Lowe’s and other top retailers.

1. Lowe’s will start selling real Christmas trees around Nov. 18.
Lowe’s will start selling live Christmas trees in mid-November 2023. I called my local store (in Central Florida) and they confirmed fresh Christmas trees would be available on Nov. 18.
They typically carry a variety of firs and spruces ranging from three to nine feet tall. You can shop Lowe’s live Christmas trees online and browse by size or species.

2. Spend at least $45 on Lowe’s Christmas trees to get free local delivery.
With over 2,000 Lowe’s stores in the U.S., it’s likely you live in an area with free local delivery. You’ll get free delivery as long as you spend at least $45 on a tree. Lowe’s live Christmas trees usually cost between $45 – $200, so most will automatically qualify for free delivery.
If not, you can easily hit the $45 delivery minimum by adding Christmas lights, a tree stand, or a wreath to your order!
3. Lowe’s will deliver your Christmas tree for free, usually within five days.
After you purchase your live Christmas tree online, Lowe’s will deliver it for free within two to five days. Some trees you see online may take longer, depending on availability. So be sure to check the delivery estimate in your cart before you check out. The first tree I added to my Lowe’s cart had a 2-week delivery estimate, but the next one I found was available for delivery in just three days.
You’ll be able to inspect your tree when it gets delivered to make sure it’s as fresh as you expected. If your tree arrives in a less-than-ideal condition, call your local Lowe’s and ask to speak to Guest Services about the issue. They’ll either issue you a refund or set you up with another live tree.
4. You can also get free delivery on live Christmas trees from The Home Depot.
While Home Depot used to offer free 2-day delivery on live Christmas trees, they aren’t guaranteeing the same speediness this year. You can still shop for Home Depot live Christmas trees online — and delivery is still free — but getting your tree in two days is a long shot in 2023. You’re probably looking at a five to 10-day delivery estimate.
Home Depot has a variety of live tree species, including firs, pines, and spruces. Home Depot’s Christmas trees are usually three to seven feet tall, with prices starting around $50.
5. Walmart will deliver your live Christmas tree for free if it’s over $35.
Walmart will once again deliver fresh-cut and potted Christmas trees right to your door this holiday season. However, Walmart’s live tree selection online is much slimmer in 2023.
The live Christmas trees at Walmart range from two to seven feet tall, and all trees over $35 qualify for free delivery. Some trees may even qualify for free 2-day shipping, but others will get delivered within the week.
6. Want an artificial Christmas tree instead? Get free delivery on $35+ orders from Target.
You don’t even need a Target RedCard to get free delivery on artificial Christmas trees from Target.
Since there’s no specific shipping policy for Target Christmas trees, their normal $35 free shipping minimum applies. The employees I spoke with said most trees are eligible for free delivery, and you’ll see if an item is eligible as you browse Target’s artificial Christmas trees online.
