I’m always searching for a good Spotify discount to keep my monthly subscription costs down. And since Spotify Premium prices have gone up (from $9.99 a month to $11.99 a month), finding ways to save is even more important.
Plus, getting a discount might tip the scale for you in the Amazon Music vs. Spotify debate. Well, assuming you don't already get Amazon Music free.
Spotify Premium gives you ad-free music listening, downloadable content, and enhanced playlists. Unlike the free version, with Premium you can listen to whichever song you want at any time and get unlimited skips. Like Apple Music, they also offer personalized music recommendations and curated playlists based on your listening trends.
Luckily, there are ways to find a Spotify discount if you just can’t budget another monthly subscription cost. Because let’s face it — we’re paying for a lot of ’em these days. (It’s why I’m always on the lookout for free streaming services.) Here are a few ways to lock in a Spotify discount and save more on your Premium Plan.

1. The Spotify discount for students gives you nearly 50% off the monthly price of Premium.
The Spotify discount for students is a huge game changer for college students. Without the discount, I wouldn't have been able to afford it when I was a student. Especially since I had just $13 in my bank account most of the time.
Instead of paying the standard $11.99 monthly price for a Spotify Premium plan, students only have to pay $5.99 a month. Even better, the student plan comes with a Hulu subscription (normally $9.99/month). So what would normally cost you $21.98 a month only costs you $5.99 a month with this discount.
How do you qualify for the Spotify Premium Student Plan? You need to be 18 and older and attend a college or university. Spotify will verify your student status through SheerID, or you can verify manually by submitting these documents:
Current Student ID
Official Enrollment Letter
Current Class Schedule
Registration Receipt
Current Transcript
2. If you haven’t tried Spotify Premium yet, sign up and get one month free.
You’ll automatically get one month free when you sign up for Spotify Premium, but only if you haven’t tried it before. After your free trial, you’ll pay $11.99 a month for an individual plan.
3. Look for discounted Spotify gift cards on sites like GCX.com.
I love searching for discounted gift cards to save more on my purchases. Sites like GCX and CardBear let you buy and sell various gift cards at a discount — and Spotify gift cards are available too.
As of this writing, you can save up to 4% on digital Spotify gift cards. So you can buy the gift card at a discount and then use it to pay for your Spotify Premium plan. This will help you save on your monthly fee.
Discount rates change often, so be sure to check back regularly.
KCL TIP: Target.com also sells Spotify gift cards at a 5% discount when you use your Target Circle Card
4. Starbucks employees get a free Spotify Premium subscription.
Even better than just a discount, one of the many Starbucks employee benefits is a free Spotify Premium plan.
5. Get a Spotify discount when you sign up for a Premium Duo Plan — two accounts for $16.99 a month.
If you and someone else in your home share a love for music, you can sign up for a Spotify Premium Duo Plan and pay just $8.50 each. A Premium Duo plan costs $16.99 a month and gives you two accounts with standard Spotify Premium benefits. That’s a discount of $3.49 a month (or $41.88 a year) per person.
6. Or get a discount with a Family Plan — up to six Spotify accounts for $19.99 a month.
A Spotify Premium Family Plan gives you the biggest bang for your back. For $19.99 a month, you get up to six Spotify Premium accounts. Unfortunately, everyone on the Family Plan has to live under the same roof to get the discount. But here’s how much you can save based on the number of people in your household:
3 Family Members = Save $15.98 a month
4 Family Members = Save $27.97 a month
5 Family Members = Save $39.96 a month
6 Family Members = Save $51.95 a month
7. You can always sign up for the free Spotify plan, but remember it's not ad-free.
It’s true — the free Spotify plan isn’t nearly as good as Spotify Premium. But if saving money is your top priority, it’s always an option.
With a free plan, you still have access to all of Spotify’s audio. But you won’t be able to listen to music ad-free, play back songs on-demand, or download content.
