Apple is super popular with undergrads for a reason — it’s an iconic brand, for starters. If you’re in the market for a new laptop or tablet and you also have college student status, you’re in luck! Apple lets you save money on some of their most popular devices, like Apple Macs, just for being a student.

Not just that — students can also lock in savings on Apple software and streaming subscriptions.

I’ll teach you exactly how to save on Apple products with the Apple student discount. And even if you’re not in school, some of the lessons might still help you find discounts so you never pay full price.

1. The Apple student discount covers way more than just college students.

Technically speaking, Apple doesn’t refer to this discount as a student discount, but rather, they call it “Education Pricing.” That’s because it’s not just students who can score an Apple deal. Parents of college kids, as well as faculty, staff, and homeschool teachers of any grade can qualify, too!

What’s more, if you’re a K-12 school board member or an elected PTA member or exec, you’re also eligible to score the deal.

Lastly, any parents purchasing Apple devices for a college or college-bounder can claim the special education pricing, as long as the teens are currently enrolled or have been recently accepted into a U.S. higher ed institution (aka college).

2. You can save up to $100 on the latest Mac computers and tablets.

The Apple Education Pricing program offers discounted pricing on all of the latest Mac computers and iPad models. When I last checked, discounts tended to range from about $50 to $100, depending on the device. But there’s no set percentage like some other retailers’ student discount programs.

For example, the MacBook Air with an M1 chip starts at $899 in the Education Pricing portal, while it starts at $999 if you pay without the Apple student discount (that’s a 10% savings). The iPad Pro is listed at $749 for students, which is $50 below the regular $799 starting price (a 6% savings).

If you happen to be an Apple addict (raises hand!), just know that there are some limitations on how often you can qualify for the discount. In one year, here’s what you’re allowed to buy:

  • One desktop computer
  • One Mac mini
  • One notebook
  • Two iPads
  • Two accessories

3. Apple doesn’t have an official verification system in place … yet.

Though Apple has dabbled with a verification process to prove your student/educator status in the past, as of now, pretty much anyone can go online to the Apple Education website and enjoy the discount. (Note: We’d never condone taking advantage of a discount that you don’t actually qualify for, but if no one’s checking … )

But if you’re shopping in an Apple store and ask for the education discount, don’t be surprised if an Apple associate asks to see some sort of proof that you attend college or meet another qualification.

Related: The discounts are a little higher for Apple employees, who get 25% off for themselves plus friends and family discounts.

4. You’ll save up to 46% on music and streaming subscriptions with your discount.

If you’re a college student, you can score a lower price on Apple Music, the company’s music streaming service. Normally you’d pay $10.99 for Apple Music, but students get it for just $5.99 a month — that’s a 46% discount! And for a limited time, they’ll throw in an Apple TV+ subscription for free, which is a $4.99 per month value.

The key difference between this promotion and the education pricing on devices is that this one is ONLY for college students, and you will have to verify your student status using the third-party platform Unidays.

5. The education discount will save you $430 on an Apple software bundle.

If you’re a college student, educator, or you work for an educational institution, you’ll definitely want to check out the Pro Apps Bundle.

It’s geared toward those working on creative multimedia projects, but with the student deal, you’ll get these five professional apps for $199.99 (a $629.95 value!):

It’s still unclear if you have to verify your status for this pricing, but you can shop the deal online.

TIP: Once you purchase the Pro Apps Bundle, you’ll get a code to download the software. Once it’s yours, you can transfer it to anyone who is in your Family Plan, squeezing even more value out of the deal.
