If nothing beats the rush of a good deal, you’re going to want to chase that high at the cinema, too. While streaming services are more popular than ever, for some, there’s no movie-watching experience as authentic as the big screen. Fortunately, more and more theaters are growing wise to the fact that moviegoers love a good deal. Enter AMC Stubs, AMC’s rewards program which launched in 2011.
With the average price of a movie ticket ringing up at $9.17, film buffs are looking for savings where they can find it. AMC, which has 7,850 screens across the U.S. and Canada, is trying to offer customers a little relief at the box office with their program. Whether you’re a party of one, a family of five, or a trip to the movies is your date night, the program’s goal is to get you the most bang for your buck. And keep you coming back to AMC, of course.
We’re getting into the ins and outs of the program below. But first, download The Krazy Coupon Lady app for more family fun and lifestyle ideas, plus money-saving tips, deals, and coupons.
What is AMC Stubs?
AMC Stubs is AMC Theaters’ rewards program, which consists of three different tiers. Members of AMC Stubs can enjoy everything from concession upgrades and refills to birthday perks and more. Of course, which tier of AMC Stubs that you sign up for correlates to what you’re looking to get out of a membership. It also depends on how much money you’re willing to spend.
AMC Stubs Cost Breakdown
- AMC Stubs Insider: FREE!
- AMC Stubs Premiere: $15/yr
- AMC Stubs A-List: $21.95/mo
There are benefits to AMC Stubs.
The idea of most loyalty or reward programs is that there are perks; you’re loyal to one company (in this case it’s AMC Theaters) and you get to reap benefits in return. The AMC Stubs membership is no different, and it has its advantages, too. These all depend on which tier you sign up for — Insider, Premiere, or A-List. Some of these benefits are monetary (you accrue points for every $1 spent, for example), while others are of the candy and popcorn variety. In all tiers, members can cash in $5 in rewards for every 5,000 points earned. Rewards are activated in either the AMC Stubs mobile app or at AMCTheatres.com/rewards.
Earn double points on movie tickets and food and beverages, every Wednesday this summer, from May 3 – August 24, 2023. To earn points be sure to sign into your Stubs account when checking out online or at the theater, scan your AMC Stubs digital checkout.

AMC Stubs Insider
The free version of AMC Stubs is called Insider. Since it’s free, all you need to do is sign up — no monthly or annual fee necessary. One of the benefits to this tier is that Insider members earn 20 points for every $1 spent at either the box office or concession stand. Insider members also get a complimentary popcorn refill each time they visit AMC. Other benefits include ticket discounts on Tuesdays, complimentary members-only Wi-Fi access, and no fees for online tickets (four or more). As an Insider, you’ll receive invitations to special screenings and other exclusive offers from time to time. When your birthday rolls around, you can count on AMC to send birthday wishes in the form of a free large popcorn.
AMC Stubs Premiere
A step up from the free membership is Premiere. For $15 a year, the Premiere membership gets you significantly more points per buck. In fact, Premiere members get 100 points for every $1 spent at AMC’s box office and concession stand. Premiere members also get a free popcorn refill every visit (as well as all the other perks that Insider members earn). The main difference with Premiere is that you get a free size upgrade on popcorn and fountain drinks. For birthdays, Premiere members get both a large popcorn and a large fountain drink for free.
AMC Stubs A-List
The final tier of the membership is A-List, which costs $21.95 per month. While it’s definitely more expensive than the other membership options, it has the longest list of benefits for sure. A-List members can see up to three movies per week included in the membership cost. And that’s in almost any format, too — Dolby Cinema, IMAX, RealD 3D, and more. You can make complimentary online reservations for easy-peasy booking. Like the Premiere membership, A-List members accrue 100 points for every $1 spent. There are also the free size upgrades on popcorn and fountain drinks, a complimentary popcorn refill every visit, and all the other benefits of the other memberships. We’re talking abut the free Wi-Fi, Tuesday ticket discounts, and $5 rewards for every 5,000 points. There are other offers and invites to special screenings, too. Members get a free large popcorn and free large fountain drink on their birthday.
Choose the right tier level to make AMC Stubs worth it.
Well, that depends. Most Insider tier members will probably give you a resounding, “Yes!” in terms of whether or not the AMC Stubs membership is worth it. That’s because AMC Stubs Insider is completely free. There’s really no harm in joining, especially if you’re going to AMC Theaters anyways. Get some kickback back in terms of rewards, points, and free stuff.
When it comes to Premiere and A-List memberships, the answer is a bit trickier. Since the Premiere membership only costs $15 a year, just two movie lists a year make back the cost. This is with the assumption that one adult movie ticket costs about $13 (depending on your market). If you’re planning on going to the movies more than that, then Premiere could be worth it for you. With AMC Stubs A-List, you can see up to three movies per week. Just remember, it costs $21.95 per month. For true-blue movie lovers that find themselves at the theater that often, A-List basically pays for itself. However, if you’re not going to get that much use out of it, then you’ll probably want to stick to a lower tier.
AMC Stubs A-List basically acts as a movie subscription.
The AMC Stubs A-List membership costs the most, and it’s the only membership tier that requires a monthly payment rather than an annual one. A-List costs $21.95 per month — which certainly isn’t cheap. But since an adult movie ticket costs anywhere from $8 to $14 a pop and A-List lets you see a max of three movies per week, avid moviegoers will find it extremely cost-effective.
Here’s how to access AMC Stubs.
Ok, so you’ve signed up — now what? You can log into your account via the AMC Stubs mobile app or at AMCTheatres.com. There you can see how many points you’ve earned, manage your membership, and even redeem rewards. To redeem rewards, activate them online at AMCTheatres, then apply them before making an online transaction. You can also redeem rewards in person at an AMC so long as you’ve already activated them online. Once you get your AMC Stubs, you can use those rewards toward different things. Insiders can use them toward concession orders (either mobile or in person at the concession stand). Premiere and A-List members can put points toward tickets and concession purchases either in person or online. The only things you can’t put points toward includes alcohol, gift cards, merchandise, certain fees, and On Demand movies.
