Are you looking for ways to cut your internet costs? I’ll help you look into cheap home internet options to save you a buck or two.
Although the major players like AT&T or Spectrum typically charge a ton for their monthly WiFi service, right now certain internet providers are offering deals, like 60 days of free internet.
To save you more money, I’ve researched some cheap (or free) ways to get home internet.
1. Comcast is offering Xfinity WiFi for free nationally.
In a recent press release, Comcast CEO Dave Watson announced that Xfinity will offer the following services for free over the next 60 days:
- Free Xfinity WiFi hotspots in business and outdoor locations for anyone — including non-Xfinity internet subscribers (check the Xfinity WiFi hotspots map for locations)
- Pausing data plans for 60 days and offering current customers Unlimited access (1 TB of data = $50 in savings/month)
- Waiving late fees and disconnects for those who can’t pay their monthly bill
2. Low-income individuals can get Comcast’s Internet Essentials for free.
If you’re a low-income individual living in a Comcast service area, you can get their Internet Essentials service free for two months (normally $9.95/mo).
For both new and current subscribers, the company announced they will increase service by 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream for no additional fee.
To take advantage of this free internet for low-income people deal, apply by April 30.
3. Spectrum is offering free internet and WiFi access for student and teacher households.
Starting Monday, March 16, if you’re a Pre-K to 12 student, college student or teacher (and even if you’re not a customer) you can get 60 days of free Spectrum WiFi and internet access.
You qualify for the offer if you:
- Have a student living at your address with remote education needs
- Are a teacher
- Haven’t subscribed to Spectrum’s internet service within the last 30 days

4. Mediacom is providing free WiFi hotspots and discounted broadband service.
For both current and non-subscribers, Medicom is offering free Xtream Hotspots for 60 days.
For new customers, Mediacom is discounting Access Internet 60 broadband service to $19.99 for the next 12 months (normally $29.99).
5. Get 1 GB of free data a month with FreedomPop.
If you’re looking for a low-cost home and phone internet provider — and you’re not addicted to streaming on your phone or scrolling Instagram for hours — then FreedomPop is amazing.
FreedomPop offers one completely free data plan, the Basic 500, which comes with 500 MB, 200 minutes and 500 texts.
If you’re looking for a low-cost home internet option, you can purchase the Freedom Hub Burst router for $99 and get 1 GB of data per month for free.
If you need more than that, here are their paid plans:
- $9.99 for 5 GB/mo
- $14.99 for 10 GB/mo at 3 Mbps
- $18.99 for 10 GB/mo at 12 Mbps
It’s ideal for basic internet surfing or checking your email, but not much more than that.
