Isolation might just be the perfect time to do your own beauty makeover at home.

If, like me, you’re missing your regular appointments and wondering how to keep feeling your best even while stuck at home, I’m here to help. Us Krazies are a resourceful bunch, and we love learning how to do everything DIY — and that, of course, includes beauty and self-care.

There is no better time than the present to spend some time on yourself. Here are some tips for doing your own beauty makeover at home.

1. Update your makeup to avoid looking outdated.

Use lipstick as blush and eyeshadow.

Okay, this might be an obvious one, but we all get stuck in a rut with our routines. Go to YouTube and practice along with makeup tutorials to get some new skills. You’ll be shocked at how many new tricks are out there. If you’re still burning your black eyeliner pencil on the stove, girl, get on that YouTube and get out of the eighties.

One of the easiest and most obvious ways to do an at-home makeover is to implement current beauty trends into your routine. Dewy foundation finishes, highlighter, funky eyeliner, matte lipstick, and thick brows (more on those last two below) are all in for 2020.

You definitely don’t have to go out and buy new products to do this, either. To take one example — dewy foundation — skip spending your hard-earned cash and mix your current foundation with a smidge of moisturizer instead (more on that here).

2. Try out new makeup with Sephora’s Virtual Artist app.

Sephora’s Virtual Artist app is a great way to “try on” new makeup products in the comfort of your own home! It’s actually really fun, too; the first time I did, I got totally sucked in and actually found some products I’m excited to try out in real life too, like Buxom blush and Too Faced concealer.

3. Rid yourself of under-eye puffiness and dark circles.

This one is a cinch. Simply place two spoons in the freezer, and after they’re nice and cold, place them under your eyes. You can also do a soft sweeping motion from the inner to outer corners of the under eye to help further reduce puffiness.

4. Give yourself a quality facial at home.

It’s easy to make your own mask at home with ingredients you already have in your pantry. I like to use honey — an antioxidant with antibacterial qualities — and combine it with coconut oil and coffee for an exfoliating scrub. Do a ½ tablespoon of each ingredient and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes.

To take it up a notch, try Clarisonic. The maker of face brushes and cleansers has many different devices for various purposes, from acne-fighting to anti-aging. I love using my Clarisonic because it feels just so dang good! It’s like a massage for your face.

5. Get your summer look — yes, even indoors — with sunless tanner.

You needn’t lie out to get your summer glow on. Instead, use sunless tanner from Bed Bath & Beyond a couple times at home, and voilá — your tan is beach- and pool-ready.

6. Give yourself a hair makeover by having hair dye sent straight to your door.

Don’t want to leave the house? Order a box of dye from Madison Reed, a woman-owned hair color company that will send everything you need to dye your hair at home straight to your door.

Before you order, you can take their quiz to find your perfect shade.

7. And then learn to dye your own eyelashes.

One of the perks of staying home is that I wear way less makeup. But one thing I can’t live without is a strong lash, which is where dying my own eyelashes comes into play.

There’s a ton of eyelash dye kits on Amazon starting at about $8 and going up from there. Not all kits are made equal, but I’ve used the cheapies and they work just fine.

I highly recommend having someone in your household help you dye your lashes if you’ve never done it. If that stuff gets in your eyes, it stings!

That being said, I’ve done it myself, and it turned out just fine. Just be sure to put vaseline or similar under your eye before you dye to avoid accidentally dying your way to the I-forget-to-take-my-mascara-off-last-night look. And absolutely do not open your eyes while dying!

8. Get glam lashes and brows with a growth serum.

Thick brows are in, and probably will be for a few more years. To get the bountiful brow and lash look, use a growth serum like this one from Amazon for $29.99.

You can also use castor oil on both your lashes and brows, which is a far cheaper option at less than $6 a bottle.

9. Speaking of eyebrows: Here’s how to tint them at home.

As we mentioned above, strong eyebrows are still having their moment. If you’re missing your regular tinting appointments, or just looking to update your “brow lewk,” here’s how to get the right hue at home.

There are lots of dye kits on the market, but I’m partial to Ardell Brow Tint from Target. It’s only $14.99 and can be used 12 times (each dye sesh should last a few weeks). Make sure you coat the immediate area around your brows — the parts of your skin you don’t want dyed — in Vaseline, coconut oil, or similar.

10. Get yourself a tool to do your own dermaplane at home.

You know that pesky facial peach fuzz or wiry chin and lip hairs that dermaplane gets rid of? Well, you don’t need to visit an aesthetician to get the expensive procedure done (a single session runs anywhere from $75 to $150).

Instead, buy a dermaplane tool to gently and safely remove fine facial hair and dry skin at home. I’ve tried a couple different versions, but this one from Amazon for just under $16 is a favorite. It’s totally painless and gets the job done. Hello, baby-smooth face!

11. Or get rid of unwanted body hair with an at-home wax kit.

At-home waxing can be tricky, but for many of us it’s a superior alternative to shaving. There are plenty of kits you can try, and I’ve tried just about all of them from Bed Bath & Beyond.

Some wax kits use strips, some use hard wax, and you might have to try out both to find out which you prefer. If you have sensitive skin, I’d suggest exfoliating your skin the day before you do it. I personally love these exfoliating hand gloves from The Body Shop.

12. Give yourself the ultimate mani-pedi at home.

Missing the nail salon? I feel you.

Luckily, you can achieve the same look and give yourself a little TLC by doing it yourself at home. I like to use a nail polishing block and cuticle oil for my hands, and a file and a peppermint foot scrub from the Body Shop for my feet. It feels sooo good to have refreshed fingers and toes.

Afterward, you can apply nail polish from Target — they have the cutest colors for as low as $1.89.

13. Have the most luxurious bath with Honest Company’s soaking salts.

Nice atmosphere in bathroom with jacuzzi filled with water and bath salts, in the candle light.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Honest Company — they specialize in making beauty and bath products for mom and baby and are transparent about ingredients — and their Me Moment Soaking Salts are no exception.

It is full of mineral-rich salt from the Dead Sea. I swear 20 minutes in the tub with this concoction is the most relaxed I’ve ever felt — and afterward, my skin feels great too. If you don’t have a tub, then fill up a big bowl and soak your feet.

14. Make over your closet with new clothes from HauteLook.

HauteLook is a retail site that has constant sales — up to 50 to 75 percent off — on items from Nordstrom, Kendra Scott, Seychelles, and more. Items and discounts change every day, starting at 8 a.m. PT.

15. Update your athleisure attire with Fabletics.

Live in athleisure? Girl, same. Rather than bum around all day in ratty leggings, I like to order updated work-from-home (ahem, did I mean to say workout?) clothes from Fabletics.

I’m a huge fan of Fabletics’ leggings with pockets as well as their crop tee. The site is extra good to its new VIPs, offering 2 for $24 leggings (a $99 value). You’ll get early access to sales and exclusive designs if you sign up to be a VIP, but make sure to log in to the site and select “skip this month” on the 1st of every month or else you’ll be charged $49 — which, of course, you can use on items at any time.
