1. Use lemon Kool-Aid drink mix to clean your dishwasher.
Pour one packet of lemon Kool-Aid into the detergent cup of an empty dishwasher and run through a regular cycle. The citric acid in the mix wipes out stains.
2. Clean baking sheets by making a paste with baking soda and peroxide.
While wearing gloves, put about 1/4 cup of baking soda in a small glass bowl and add just enough hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. Using steel wool or a sponge, rub the paste into your baking pan’s stains. Allow the paste to set for about 45 minutes before wiping and rinsing clean.
3. Use mineral oil to wipe up oily kitchen surfaces.
Put a few drops of mineral oil on a paper towel and wipe over the hood of your stove or other oily kitchen surfaces. Take a clean paper towel and wipe over the surface to pick up remaining oil and dust residues.
4. Dampen a dirty sponge and microwave it on high for 60 seconds to kill bacteria.
5. Remove crumbs from a toaster with a pastry brush.

6. Clean grease from kitchen cabinets with Dawn dish soap and warm water.
Mix 2 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap with 2 cups of warm water. Following the grain of the wood, scrub the cabinet with a clean cloth. With a clean sponge and warm water, wipe away any remaining soap, and dry with a clean towel.
7. Use lemon slices frozen in vinegar to clean a garbage disposal.
8. Clean the inside of your refrigerator with baking soda and hot water.
The fragrance in dish soap and other cleaners can affect the way food stored in your fridge tastes. Instead, use a solution of 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 quart of hot water to wipe down your fridge.
9. Clean and deodorize wood cutting boards with lemon and salt.
Cut a lemon in half and squeeze its juice over a wood cutting board. Use the squeezed lemon to spread the juice around. Sprinkle coarse salt over the board and use the other lemon half to scrub in the salt. Use a paper towel (slightly damp if needed) to wipe off the salt and lemon juice.
10. Apply car wax to your stovetop for easier cleanup.
Wax your stove top with car wax, then wipe off with paper towels. Any future spills—no matter how crusty—will wipe off in a jiffy.
11. Use Bar Keeper’s Friend to clean stainless steel appliances.
Not only does Bar Keeper’s Friend polish stainless steel appliances, it also works on copper cookware, sterling silver, and porcelain sinks. Rub the powder in with a few drops of water and scrub with a sponge. Then, wipe clean with a damp paper towel.
