Dollar General Black Friday is a 2-part sale with two different waves every year.
We expect the early Dollar General Black Friday wave will begin on Nov. 17. We expect the second Dollar General Black Friday wave will start on Nov. 28.

According to Dollar General, in order to further their reach to more consumers, they launched online shopping in 2019. However, even after a few years, you can't shop all the Dollar General Black Friday items online or in the DG app. That's why we say it's best to shop Dollar General Black Friday deals in store, even on Thanksgiving. You'll also avoid FedEx shipping costs which can vary. For example, we bought two Melissa & Doug toys that cost a total of $18.75 online. Our FedEx ground economy shipping was $9.22. That's almost the price of one of the toys.
Doorbusters aren't a thing at Dollar General Black Friday, but Rhode Island, Maine, and Massachusetts shoppers get a few extra deals.
Shoppers in Rhode Island, Maine, and Massachusetts had several items exclusive to their states on Black Friday 2023. For example, while shoppers in these three states saw a 50% discount on artificial trees and lights, shoppers in other states saw $35 artificial trees and $2 lights. The Northeast stores also had an exclusive As You See on TV products BOGO 50% off deal and 15% off Lowe's gift cards last year.
MyDG Rewards members don't get early access to Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday sales.
MyDG Rewards get cash back, digital coupons, and early access to new items and deals, but that doesn't seem to matter during Black Friday. Dollar General plays fair, giving all shoppers the same starting time for Black Friday deals.

Watch for a buy one get one 75% off select toys deal during the Dollar General Black Friday Sale. You'll need to look for the blue or yellow star or blue dot on their tags. These indicate they're seasonal toys, not year-round products, so they need to move them out.
Last year, over 2,000 toys (regularly $1 - $50) were BOGO 75% off. Brands including Play-Doh, Barbie, and Disney were part of the sale. You can also use a 25% off when you spend $75 on toys in single transaction. These two deals can't be combined.
Although last year's 25% off $75 toy purchase deal excluded Lego, LOL and coloring books, in 2024, we see it only excludes Lego.

Rain Checks: Unfortunately, there are no rain checks available at Dollar General.
Shipping: Dollar General free shipping is very rare, but store pickup is always free.
Local Delivery: Dollar General offers same-day delivery via DoorDash. Prices vary.
Returns: If you're not satisfied with any purchase you make through the DG app, you can return items according to your local store's return policy.
Layaway: Dollar General doesn't offer layaway.
